About

We welcome all the backpackers, travellers and guests who search for the unique experience of staying at the first cinema hostel in Portugal, right in the centre of Porto.
We’re set in a 1930s Art Deco-style building, full of character itself. It was designed by the same designer as for the amazing Lello Bookshop (considered the third most beautiful in the world). Although it preserves the charm of most original elements, it was carefully renovated to provide you high standards comfortable accommodation with updated infrastructure.
The whole Hostel is Movie Themed and we’ve carefully decorated all the common areas and rooms, making you feel at home with your newest big family while staying in a room themed after your favourite movie or director.
Our common areas include a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a large lounge where you can relax, have a drink, read, play video games on our PlayStation and Wii or watch satellite TV or one of our 300 DVDs.
If you prefer to be outside, we have an outstanding 150m² terrace where you can sunbath, BBQ, listen to music, party or just socialise with the others guests, including a seasonal Bar and relaxing pool.
Our renovated facilities, 24hr availability, cinema theme and friendly multilingual staff create an especially cosy and comfortable atmosphere. We have free Wi-Fi, netflix, free internet, free maps and travel advice, free walking tours and free luggage storage on arrival and departure as well as free continental breakfast and all-day coffee and tea!

Summary of traveller reviews

Rivoli Cinema Hostel in Porto is praised for its exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, and its prime central location. Guests appreciate the clean rooms, comfortable beds with privacy curtains, and the rooftop terrace. While generally quiet, some mention it's not the most social hostel, and a few recent reviews note that bathrooms could be cleaner and are mixed-gender.

Mostly good but the reason I didn’t rate it highly was because a) you have to pay for reservation in cash which I was not informed about before so an email before my arrival would have helped. B) They recently had a cyber security incident and I kept getting WhatsApp messages from scammers asking me to pay for the reservation. I showed this to the staff and they said it was a scammer and to block them. No one told the guests about this cyber security incident which they should because it’s risky

Lovely Rooms, but the restrooms were crowded and some of my companions were unhappy with the water pressure as well as not having a dedicated ladies bathroom or shower area. For a superior private room, a towel should be included. It would have been helpful to know they only accept cash, and I was extremely grateful they were able to send a link to pay with whatsapp. The staff were exceptionally kind and the rooftop area was an extra nice way to spend an evening with friends, overall nice stay

I really enjoyed the rooftop, especially because you can hang there after hours. The staff were amazing and the breakfast was decent. Not very much to do socially there but I would stay again.

Hostelworld says

Rivoli Cinema Hostel was rated among the top five small hostels worldwide at the 2010 and 2011 Hoscars, and it?s not hard to see why. Hostelworld guests say ?the location couldn\'t be better, located in a safe part of downtown, between the metro and the train station, the historical centre and the shopping street, all at a walking distance?. We like the whimsical film decor, especially the Tim Burton rooms. This hostel has a large rooftop terrace with a swimming pool and BBQ and travellers tell us it?s ?very easy to mingle and meet people with the pub crawl and free city tour?.
