About

Lofoten Hostel Ballstad offers dorm beds in a rustic fishermen's cabins from the 1850s. Here you can find a warm and atmospheric place to rest and base yourself for further adventures. With the mountains to one side, offering hiking and wondrous views of the surroundings, and the bay right at your doorstep, where you can spend your evenings watching the sun set or the northern lights in winter, we provide simple accommodation for those on a budget or who want to meet their fellow backpacker and share stories in the common room over a cup of tea or coffee in front of the fireplace or cook a meal together in the kitchenette. And for those that just want to rest and let their minds wander, kick back on the docks or even take out the rowboat to drift in the harbour or to head across to the local shop on the opposite shore.

Lofoten Hostel Ballstad provides simple accommodation in a rustic cabin by the sea, with bunk and single beds (bedding and towels provided) in a room or overhead loft, a small kitchen area to cook up simple meals, a dining and common area to mingle with others, as well as a sofa and chairs to relax in by the fireplace or stare out the window towards the harbour just outside. There is also shared dock space just outside with picnic tables for those sunny days or dark nights waiting for the northern lights.

Easily accessible by bus from Leknes, where you can also find a small airport with flights back to the mainland.

Amazing hostel, right in front of the sea. Clean, social, and well furnished. The host was very nice and the reception ready to help.

Balstad is a good location to base from. About an hour or so to Moskenes or Svolvaer. 10 min to Leknes. Clean basic rooms with good directions on checking in

Overall, our stay as a group of 4 (2 in mixed dorm / 2 in womens dorm) was fine, though the experience heavily depends on fellow guests. The kitchen in the women's area was very messy, so we hung out in the cleaner mixed-dorm space. Both dorm layouts were a bit uncomfortable: the mixed-dorm beds were in a windowless attic exposed to noise and smells, while the women's dorm upper beds were hard to climb and had crappy mattresses. Combined shower-and-toilet bathrooms also caused waitingtime.
