The old courtyard, carved wooden doors and traditional architectural details give the place a character that feels different from a standard hotel or modern hostel. The atmosphere is simple, relaxed and lived-in, offering a glimpse of Lijiang's traditional local character.
Many travelers arrive here with flexible plans. Some book just a short stay at first and then decide to stay a little longer. You can settle in, take your time and decide where to go next at your own pace.
Tom's Home is a small hostel, so the social atmosphere doesn't depend entirely on how many people are staying. Sometimes there are only a few guests in the dorm, but conversations still happen naturally. Travelers meet over breakfast or coffee, chat in the courtyard, exchange travel experiences and route information, and sometimes make plans together. Other times, the hostel is quiet, giving you space to rest or enjoy some time on your own.
Our guests include backpackers, hikers, cyclists, solo travelers, families and people on longer journeys through China. Many stay with us before or after visiting Tiger Leaping Gorge, Shangri-La, Dali, Chengdu, Yangshuo and other destinations in Yunnan and China. Conversations often turn to hiking, trains, buses, food, weather, border crossings and the question every traveler eventually asks: where next?
We've been welcoming international travelers since 2014. With 12 years of experience, we offer well-established Tiger Leaping Gorge hiking routes and can help arrange luggage transfers and transport connections, making it easier for travelers to plan their hikes.
We also share practical local travel advice, including important things to know when exploring Lijiang, transport options to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and useful tips for planning day trips around the area.
If you've been moving between cities for a while, you can slow down here: do your laundry, enjoy a coffee or a simple breakfast, work on your laptop, repack your bag or simply take a day to rest.
We offer mixed dorms and private rooms. For families or small groups, our second floor can also be arranged as a more private accommodation option, with one double room, one twin room, two private bathrooms and extra space for luggage.
We are located in a quiet local neighborhood near Xiangshan Hill and Black Dragon Pool Park, about a 15-minute walk from Lijiang Old Town. You can enjoy a quieter stay away from the busiest tourist streets while still reaching the Old Town easily.
