Maison Monty is a heritage hostel in the heart of Pondicherry, housed in a traditional Franco-Tamil home built in the years following Pondicherry’s independence from French rule. Once a private residence, the space has been thoughtfully reimagined to retain its original character while opening its doors to travelers from around the world. Designed as more than just a place to stay, Maison Monty offers a rooted Franco-Tamil heritage experience for backpackers, where shared spaces naturally bring people together through conversations and lived experiences, while still allowing room for quiet and rest.
Set within this heritage property, the hostel blends old-world charm with modern living through a central courtyard and thoughtfully designed spaces that balance community and retreat. A large backyard, home to an original well from the house’s early days, now serves as an open communal space where guests can gather, unwind, and connect. Guests can enjoy spacious air-conditioned bunk rooms, Wi-Fi, work-friendly areas, a large backyard, an open-to-sky courtyard, lounge spaces with board games, a pantry with microwave, kettle and water, a designated smoking zone, restrooms and shower facilities on both floors.
