We loved our stay at the purple pineapple. The staff were great, especially Heru who was happy to help us sort airport transfers. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious. One thing to maybe improve would be the WiFi, as sometimes it can be a little slow. Previous reviews mention mosquitos but we did not find this to be an issue at all. Would 100% recommend 😊

The staff are lovely, rooms are comfortable, vibe is quiet but very social. The problem is the location -- right between a filthy smelly canal and the notorious Surfer's Bar frequented by violent gangs. It hosts very loud parties until 4 AM 1-2x per week, several tourists have gotten methanol poisoning there, and a few have been badly beaten up.

Booked this for 3 nights based on good reviews with a few mosquito warnings buried in them. Should've paid more attention. The basics are fine: good location near town, friendly staff, clean, feels safe. As a bare-bones hostel it does the job - nothing special, and looking a bit tired for a place that's only 2 months old.
