About

-- Important Info: Please note this Hostel is not a family-friendly hostel and all guests have to be at least 18 years old.--

Come to Balmers and stay in the oldest private hostel in Switzerland! Our hostel is situated in three traditional Swiss wooden chalets that surround a courtyard, terrace and garden. The look and feel of our accommodation can best be described as playful, comfy and unique.

Community is an essential part of Balmers. We organise guest activities and casual social moments that make it easy to meet other travellers. Our little bar is a cosy place to wind down after a day out exploring. During the summer months, we move it outside into our beer garden. We also have an on-site club that opens once or twice a week, depending on the season and the crowd. Entrance is exclusively for our guests.

To help keep costs down for our guests, we expanded our guest kitchen. It has all the equipment you need to cook your own meal, and there are several supermarkets nearby for supplies. On days you don’t feel like cooking, you’ll find a range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, including Swiss, Thai, Vietnamese, and Portuguese cuisine.

Nestled between two lakes, Interlaken is a renowned base for outdoor adventures. You can do anything from hiking and kayaking to paragliding, skiing, and rafting. All of that with the famous Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau dominating the skyline. It is genuinely impressive and beautiful.

And in between all of that, it’s our team that helps make Balmers feel like home. We’re around, happy to help with plans, and always up for a chat. We’d love to have you! Come by and make yourself at home.

A random little note about reviews
We read every single review - and we truly appreciate the time you take to share your experience. The good ones make our day, and the critical ones help us grow.

We’ve chosen not to reply to every review individually - not because we don’t care, but because we do. Deeply. We’d rather spend that time making things better or chatting with you in person, than writing templated replies just to “tick the box.”

We know reviews are personal and subjective - so we encourage you to read through them, get a feel for our vibe, and see if we’re your kind of place.

If something’s off during your stay, please tell us while you’re here. We’re always around and genuinely happy to help. We’re human, we care, and we love keeping things real.

Genuinely such a good hostel, wish that the beds had curtains but perfect otherwise.

Honestly it’s a great hostel! Amazing vibes and all the facilities were great - nice hammock room and gardens plus an underground bar! Was surprisingly quiet in dorms even with a party downstairs! Would recommend to anyone wanting a good time! :)
