About

Hello and welcome,
We are Som & Som, the founders of The Yard.

When we built this hostel since 2015, we had one purpose: to connect people. We believe real connections can make a difference.

In Thai, Yard means family. So when you stay here, you’re not just a guest—you’re part of our family.

Our team isn’t just staff—they take care of you like family.

Our prices may be a little higher than average, but that’s because we offer something rare in Bangkok:
a huge green common space—a peaceful oasis where you can stretch out, slow down, and truly relax. In fact, our space-per-guest ratio is one of the largest you’ll find in this business.

We also keep things simple and transparent:
• No credit card fees
• No deposit
• Towels & organic amenities included
• Homemade breakfast with local organic tea & coffee included
• Travel assistance for your whole trip in Thailand included

Location
We’re not right next to the main tourist attractions like the Grand Palace or Khao San Road. If those are your main plans, we recommend staying in the Old Town.
But—if you want to see a different side of Bangkok, stay in our neighborhood. It’s peaceful, friendly, creative, and full of local life. Getting to temples takes around 30 minutes, but we think the trade-off is worth it.

And your stay here does more than support your travels:

• Every direct booking helps us donate 7% to an indigenous village in Northern Thailand to prevent forest burning.
• We don’t sell plastic water bottles – instead, we encourage guests to bring their own and refill them.
• Your bedsheets are made from overstock fabrics instead of newly produced materials.
• Breakfast is served as a set to reduce food waste, but you can always refill until you’re full.
• Our coffee beans from Northern Thailand, roasted right here in our neighborhood.
• We make our own yogurt and jam to cut down on single-use plastic.
• Our shampoo and shower gel are natural and made in collaboration with local people.

Here, your stay supports people, communities, and the planet—while giving you the chance to make real human connections.

We hope The Yard becomes part of your story in Thailand—
and maybe part of a growing world family.

Absolutely adored the Yard. It was the first place I stayed on my solo travel ventures and had the perfect balance of serenity as well as being very sociable. I expected to find myself spending my days alone but managed to make friends to spend time with, as well as meeting people through the free events that the hostel hosts. I tried to book their Chiang Mai hostel when I left and was very sad to see there was no space. I really hope I will be able to stay at either venue again in the future!

The place is super nice and full of nature, with some food stalls in the yard. It’s a bit far from everything though. The beds are comfy, but the share rooms are quite small and there’s not much space to organize your stuff.

Very chill hostel, great to meet people and they often organize activities you can join for free. Friendly staff. The location might not be the most central, but the neighborhood is nice and the BTS station is not far from the hostel.
