Just 200 meters from the beach, Papaya Tree Hostel is a calm and welcoming base for surfers, creatives and conscious travellers who want both connection and comfort.

Learn how to surf or improve your skills together! We are partnering up with a local surf school so you can use the sun beds for free and get the best prices on surf packages and lessons!

We’re a social hostel — but we’re not a party hostel. We love going out together while our space stays relaxed and peaceful at night. Guests who feel like partying can easily join the energy at our partner hostel nearby and then come back for a peaceful sleep. That way, you get the best of both worlds.

Expect quality beds, thoughtful design, discounts at yoga places close by and if available inhouse yoga aswell. We create a warm community atmosphere just steps away from the ocean.

Il Papaya Tree Hostel a Weligama offre un'atmosfera meravigliosamente sociale ma rilassata, perfetta per incontrare altri viaggiatori. Gli ospiti amano le camere pulite e confortevoli e la posizione privilegiata vicino alla spiaggia. Lo staff cordiale e il simpatico cane delostello, Bobby, contribuiscono all'atmosfera accogliente, rendendolo un ottimo posto per un soggiorno memorabile.

Comfy beds with curtains all around and privacy in a 6 bed dorm is highly appreciated , good Ac, clean bathrooms, has a kitchen which is always a plus and a very nice outdoor hangout area. It’s close to the beach and good restaurants and a short walk to the main beginner surf spots. Best thing is the Host Jack, super inclusive knows what’s going on and always willing to help out. Also loved the dog, such a cutie

Staying at Papaya Tree was the best decision of my trip, I was getting a little burnt out with the solo travel and Papaya Tree offered the perfect place to relax and get some good rest, the rooms are definitely the highlight. I went in the Weligama off season so there are not too many people around in town but the surf school that the hostel work with are super welcoming and will invite you to local parties too ✌️ Big up Marie for creating such a relaxing space.

Ich hatte die beste Zeit im Papaya Tree Hostel 🥰 Die Atmosphäre ist super besonders und ich habe mich direkt wie Zuhause gefühlt! Ich war fast drei Wochen dort und wäre am Liebsten noch länger geblieben. Das Hostel ist die perfekte Balance zwischen social und entspannt. Die Lage ist ein Traum (direkt am Strand) und Bobby (der Hostelhund) ist einfach unglaublich süß 🥹🥹 Ich komme auf jeden Fall Ende des Jahres wieder.
