Learn how to surf or improve your skills together! We are partnering up with a local surf school so you can use the sun beds for free and get the best prices on surf packages and lessons!

We’re a social hostel — but we’re not a party hostel. We love going out together while our space stays relaxed and peaceful at night. Guests who feel like partying can easily join the energy at our partner hostel nearby and then come back for a peaceful sleep. That way, you get the best of both worlds.

Expect quality beds, thoughtful design, discounts at yoga places close by and if available inhouse yoga aswell. We create a warm community atmosphere just steps away from the ocean.

Staying at Papaya Tree was the best decision of my trip, I was getting a little burnt out with the solo travel and Papaya Tree offered the perfect place to relax and get some good rest, the rooms are definitely the highlight. I went in the Weligama off season so there are not too many people around in town but the surf school that the hostel work with are super welcoming and will invite you to local parties too ✌️ Big up Marie for creating such a relaxing space.

Ich hatte die beste Zeit im Papaya Tree Hostel 🥰 Die Atmosphäre ist super besonders und ich habe mich direkt wie Zuhause gefühlt! Ich war fast drei Wochen dort und wäre am Liebsten noch länger geblieben. Das Hostel ist die perfekte Balance zwischen social und entspannt. Die Lage ist ein Traum (direkt am Strand) und Bobby (der Hostelhund) ist einfach unglaublich süß 🥹🥹 Ich komme auf jeden Fall Ende des Jahres wieder.

comfy beds, i got unlucky being top bunk and there’s no shelf which was annoying as they’re pretty high. also was unlucky as the environment in my dorm was unwelcoming and the aircon kept being turned off by the other guests (despite having paid extra for aircon room?). bathroom floors were not clean. also the sink and shower were in the same room, so if you used the toilet while someone is showering you can’t wash your hands.
