This was just the stop-off I needed while walking the South Downs Way. It was a weeknight in November, so the hostel wasn’t lively by any measure, but I had a very restful evening, snarfing up several vegan dishes with a few local beers in the cafe. I appreciate that there’s a heated room for drying out wet gear overnight! It would be very easy to take the train from the hostel in to Lewes if you were looking for a lively evening.

We loved our stay at South Downs YHA on our family biking holiday London - Paris. It was a little off route (London to Paris via Bike) but we are really pleased we made the short trip out of Newhaven and perfect location for our early crossing the following morning. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was really good. We were especially grateful for the drying room which meant that we could dry all our clothes and shoes after a very wet day of cycling.
