Volkshotel is a place for single mums, dandies, artists and night owls. A place where there’s life 24/7 and creativity flows. In Volkshotel, locals and travellers gather to eat, drink, work, sleep and play. With Werkplaats (café & co-working spaces), Doka (nightly basement soundbar), Canvas (restaurant on the 7th floor), Broedplaats VKG (85 work spaces for creative minds) and 216 hotel rooms, this former newspaper building is more than just a place for tourists to sleep. The reasonable prices and easy-going vibe make Volkshotel a place for everyone.

Volkshotel is located in the former head quarter of Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. The newspaper past is incorporated into the architecture and interior of the building. Architect Steven Steenbruggen kept the exterior as close to the original sixties design as possible. Interior Design Studio Müller van Tol created an interior with magnified newspaper cut outs and original elements of steel, wood, concrete and glass. With nine special rooms – designed by creative minds, ranging from interior designers in Broedplaats VKG to Canvas’ very own loo attendant – Volkshotel is complete.

Volkshotel Conditions and Policies:

Cancellation policy for Standard rate bookings: 2 days (48h) before arrival. In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the first night of your stay. In case of Non-refundable bookings, no cancellation free of charge is allowed.

Check in from 16:00.
Check out before 12:00.
24 hours reception.

Payment upon arrival by credit cards, debit cards. We don't accept cash. Surcharge per night when paying with American Express - €5.
The hotel may pre-authorise your card before your arrival.

City taxes are not included in the price. 12,5% city tax per person per stay.

Breakfast not included - €16,- per person per day.

As long as it’s not the size of a giraffe, pets (max 2) are welcome to stay for an additional €20 per stay. Email us in advance so we are prepared.

Such a cool hotel! Loved the overall vibe and the views were so impressive!! They have free hot tubs and sauna for guests in the rooftop, which was a pleasant surprise (make sure to bring bathing suits!). However, a very big downside was that the AC in the room could not be turned off nor regulated… we slept every night in the freezing cold (we told the reception and they were very kind to switch our room, but the condition was the same, so I believe it’s the standard in every room).

really beautiful place. it's not far to get to Amsterdam centraal, a nice walk or metro usually available. the whole vibe of the place is awesome. didn't get to spend enough time here, hopefully I'll be back soon.

Pretty good! We stayed in one of the cabins which for two average-tall people with a small backpack each was cramped. Could not open the door fully with our bags both lying on the floor, but also nowhere to store them outside the cubicle. One of the showers did not drain at all, and the other drained very slowly. It got very hot and stuffy in the cabin with no way of airing it out without opening the door. There was also drilling a hole into the roof in the middle of the room during the day with rubble fall
