Nuremberg in Germany's Bavaria is a city with a fascinating past and a lively, energetic present. You can wander through to get a sense of Germany's cultural history. For some tranquil light exercise, head for a calm stroll by the river. In the summer, you'll even find a sandy beach there, complete with palm trees, deckchairs, games and plenty of places to eat and drink. If you're visiting in December, don't miss Nuremberg's Christmas market. Admire twinkling lights and soak up festive cheer as you wind your way around the charming little huts selling everything from warming mulled wine to quaint woollen accessories.

Nuremberg Airport is served by flights from across Europe and it's just a 6-minute bus ride from the centre. If you're taking the train, Nuremberg Central Station is the city's main railway hub, a 10-minute walk from the middle of town. Most of the city can be explored on foot, while the bus, tram and underground all make it easy to visit further afield.
