We know the best places to have a good time (outside the hostel) and are as concerned about somewhere clean to sleep as much as you are!

The hostel is within 5 minutes of most St Kilda hotspots including the beach. Nearby trams can take you to the heart of the CBD in around 20 minutes.

Barkly Backpackers has a mix of mixed dorm and female only rooms, and one private (double) room. All rooms offer loads of natural light as well as space to move.

In our common room you can sit comfortably and relax, use one of our (limited number of) computers, cook and enjoy free WiFi and tea & coffee.

Our reception is open late and you'll have access to the building at all times.

Honestly one of the nicest hostel stays I’ve had. The atmosphere is so welcoming and positive, and it makes it really easy to settle in and meet people right away. The staff are genuinely so kind and helpful, and you can tell they care about making everyone feel comfortable. Everything is very clean, relaxed, and has a really good energy throughout the place. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would absolutely come back!

Are you looking for a perfect family hostel? From the moment you step foot in here, I have only three words of advice for you: enjoy the Barkly’s family! This place has done so much for me—it’s been a home, it’s been a family, and it helped me out tons with all the work I did on my van. They even let me keep my things in their garage. My favorite spot was the rooftop, where you can get a view of St Kilda and the sunset. Get ready to spend time with real artist. Thanks Barkly! Always with me

The rooms and beds were nice, the shower in my room was a little moldy, but there were nicer showers on other floors. The kitchen had everything you need and the staff were lovely. The only thing is that it was not very social at all, everyone here kind of felt like a close knit group that didn’t want strangers imposing on them. There were a couple times I got funny looks from people which didn’t help with the welcoming environment.
