First impression was ok, but in the evening we saw a lot of ants on one bed and on the floor. And in the morning when we were making the bed we saw a cockroach that run from under the pillow. In the room there were a lot of cobwebs and under the beds dusts and remainings from other visitors also lack of toilet brush was a problem. In the morining when we were leaving there was noone to talk with about this situations. Worst stay during our whole lives. It was so disgusting I don't have words.

On the up side, the hostel was clean and well serviced, good value for money, ideally located in the centre of Old Funchal opposite the fish and fruit markets, and surprisingly cool and quiet at night. On the down side, our room was in need of a little repair and investment - the shower fitting was broken and it wasn’t possible to securely close the window.

Great value for the price. Positioned very centrally, right across the street from Mercado dos Lavradores, making it easy to reach everywhere. The room was cleaned daily, the bed made, towels changed, etc. (They even folded my pajamas! :))) ) The kitchen was very useful when we were too tired or didn't feel like eating out after long hiking days. Self check-in and check-out were convenient. -Smells like mold at the entrance (Room was CLEAN) -Bed uncomfortable
