Sobre
Kulaniapia Falls is an off-grid, farm-based hostel-style stay on Hawaii Island, set across 40 acres of lush farmland with sweeping rainforest and ocean views and a striking 120-foot waterfall, the tallest privately accessible waterfall in Hawaii.
Guests sleep in rustic, screened-in cabins meant as simple private sleeping spaces rather than hotel rooms, paired with shared bathrooms, outdoor hot-water showers, and a communal kitchen located in the central barn. The barn serves as the heart of the property, with an upstairs kitchen, dining area, and lounge overlooking Hilo Bay and Maunakea, where guests cook, relax, and connect with fellow travelers and the on-site farm community, while shared bathrooms and showers are located downstairs.
As a working farm and shared living environment, Kulaniapia is not a resort and comes with dirt paths, uneven terrain, wildlife, farm animals, insects, and the nighttime sounds of the rainforest, making it best suited for travelers who enjoy community living, shared facilities, and a nature-forward experience. Guests can swim at the waterfall, explore walking paths, and enjoy social common areas, all while being well positioned for discovering Hilo town, Volcanoes National Park, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and the east-side rainforests, making it an ideal choice for those seeking simplicity, connection, and time outdoors over a traditional hostel or hotel stay.
