About

Welcome to HI Bergen Hostel Montana, the coolest place to stay during your trip to Bergen!

We're located up on the hillside of Mount Ulriken, about 3.6 km from Bergen City Centre, and super easy to reach by public transportation. Plus, there's a grocery store right next door and many different hiking trails just around the corner. Did we mention free parking? Yeah, we got that too, exclusive for our lovely guests!

We welcome backpackers, groups, and families to our international community of travelers all year round. And we've got options for everyone - whether you're looking for a private room, be it single, twin, triple, or quadruple (and more!), or prefer a shared dormitory for making new friends and sharing travel stories while saving some bucks!

Now, let's talk about the good stuff - food! We offer a complete all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet to keep you filled up for all your adventures FOR FREE. And not to brag, it is amazing.

One set of bed linens and one towel are included in the price (extra sets costs NOK 60). Sleeping bags are not allowed for hygiene reasons.

Our reception is open from 9h until 21h. If you plan on arriving later, don't worry we will send you the self-check-in instructions by the end of the day.

We've got Wi-Fi so you can keep up with all your social media posts (#bergenhostelmontana), laundry facilities to keep your clothes fresh and clean, a small gym, and two guest kitchens equipped with everything you need to show off your chef skills. And when you're ready to relax, we've got plenty of options too: chill out in our TV lounge or challenge your new hostel friends to a game of foosball or table tennis in the games room.

Our international volunteers are always planning fun activities for our guests - from hikes and BBQs to music sessions. And let's not forget the free Coffee and Cookies, every evening in the common room (because we all know that's the most important meal of the day).

Our hostel is HI Quality and Sustainability certified, so you can rest easy knowing you're staying somewhere that cares about the environment and a greener planet!

And last but not least, our outdoor areas are perfect for soaking in the breathtaking views of the mountains. And there are even BBQ facilities so you can grill some delicious food while you're at it. Hummmmm!

So, pack your bags, put on your hiking boots, and come join us at HI Bergen Hostel Montana for the adventure of a lifetime!

Summary of traveller reviews

The kitchen being open 24/7 was wonderful with ample space to put cold food (less storage for dry goods than was ideal, but it wasn't too much of a hassle). Kitchen was also great for having enough space for a lot of people cooking at once, multiple stoves, ovens, pots and pans, etc. The included breakfast was great, lots of variety and always quite fresh. Staff ranked lower because of a few issues of lack of communication and incorrect information given; but nothing bad enough not to stay again

It's a cool place with a retro 60s undertone that's right by the mountains outside of the city center. Laundry is reasonably priced and easy to use. Breakfast is basic. The 4 bed dorm was nice. Great views of the city. Take a scooter from the light rail stop to get there. The world's longest bike tunnel is easy to get to and worth seeing too.

Staff was great, atmosphere seemed to be fun and friendly, lots of people using the kitchen and hanging out in common areas. It is located in a beautiful area and a bus ride from downtown Bergen is not too difficult. Over all I’d say it was a good value for money, maybe not the cleanest but certainly was not dirty!
