The Sassi Hostel is a recently opened (July 2015) property. It has already had good feedback and enthusiastic reviews from our international guests that have been here.

The Hostel offers the most welcoming atmosphere in a unique and extraordinary place: it is located in the heart of the old tuff quarters of Matera, Unesco World Heritage city and European Capital of Culture 2019. Its location allows an easy walk to the main sites of historical and cultural interest. It is the ideal place to relax after a day out or to start your evening of fun: pubs, bars, cafes are in the nearby.

Our rooms new, bright and comfortable. It has free WiFi in every room, linen, lockers and free cleaning. It is designed to accommodate young travellers eager to marvel at the beauty and charm of the city and at the same time be able to live for a few days on a low budget.

Got bitten by bedbugs :(( The owner was very nice, but after some point he of course has to leave, where some other guests, especially during weekends, got very rude (talking loud in the middle of the night, calling me a bitch when i asked them to go outside, followed me to my bed, …) which made me feel very unsafe as there is no supervision at all.

Got eaten alive by bed bugs very badly & possibly something else, floors in common area & kitchen were not noticeably cleaned for a couple days in a row, dorm is separated by a curtain; expect noise & light Kitchen had one hot plate for one person to cook at a time, lack of storage and utensils, & no way to label your food properly Bathrooms were ok but the water for the shower was not separate so there were temperature issues every time. Lockers are not that secure with an open back to a wall.

I only stayed one night, but there was no hot water (it was in the evening when the reception was closed so no one to ask about it). The rest was OK, hopefully this was just a one time issue.
