The self check in for international travellers who do not have an Australian phone number is shockingly terrible, we sat waiting for our keys for over 3 hours! Having to email the sister hostel and waiting over half an hour per reply, to then finally be checked in and have 1 key, however when the second person on my booking requested her key, it deleted mine. To yet again have no access to the hostel. However after receiving only 1 key for 2 people it still didnt work DO NOT STAY HERE. google it

The info claims the hostel is under a year old but everything is worn and shabby. Shower knob came off in my hand. Only one cubicle with toilet roll which ran out and wasn't replaced. Never saw a member of staff. Front door doesn't close and dorm door was wedged open. You have to call them (not WhatsApp) to check in so travellers on a data only sim have to walk to the other backpackers a block away to check in. Long termers friendly enough but it feels like crashing at a house share.

Linked to Port Douglas Backpackers Hostel. Staff were very friendly and informative about the hostel and day trips. They were deep cleaning on the day I arrived. Leaking aircon was repaired the same day. Lovely food places in walking distance, and 4 mile beach. Other guests were friendly and polite. I didn't quite figure out the laundry, but I also didn't ask. Tokens available for the bar downstairs to get meal deals for $10. Local transport was an issue, but the hostel had recommendations.
