Really enjoyed our stay here overall. It’s relaxed and very chill so perfect if you’re looking to chill and surf. The pool area is a highlight and perfect for cooling off and it’s extremely hot during the day, and the kitchen is well set up and has all the basics you need to make cooking easy.
One of the staff (the man with curly hair) was honestly a standout. Super attentive, always cheerful, and always down for a chat.
A couple of things for feedback. We had a long-term guest staying in our dorm who had been there for several weeks and was clearly staying on for quite a while longer. He had so much stuff that it really took over the small room, and it felt like we were in his personal space. It might be worth the hostel considering a policy around long-term stays in shared dorms or moving those guests into private rooms.
We also noticed the owners used the facilities daily, including the pool, to spend time with family and friends. While that’s completely their right, it sometimes made it feel less like a guest space and a bit uncomfortable.
Lastly, the aircon situation wasn’t communicated. It’s turned off during the day and the remote is taken, so you can’t control it at night either. If you’re on the top bunk near the unit, it can get very cold.
That said, we really loved our stay and would still recommend it. Definitely hire bikes as it’s on the more remote side of Popoyo and makes getting around much easier.
