Cabañas Balamjuyuc Mazunte Ecohostel

This is was the worst accommodation we have stayed in on our entire trip. Despite initial appearances of being quite nice, once we started to look around we noticed that our room was filthy - our room hadn’t even had a basic clean, there were fake eyelashes left on the sink and all corners of the bathroom were covered in grime. The kitchen looked like a biohazard with rubbish and dirt everywhere, dirty dishes left out and an odd odour. Do not stay here!

The owner of this hostel is lovely and very relaxed. It's got a very rustic vibe which is fine but I would say the two main issues are: 1. bedroom doors don't lock and blow wide open all day, no lockers at all so nowhere safe to store valuables. 2. the bathrooms are really unclean and full of bugs ( we are talking scorpions in the shower...), the showers were full of leaves and didn't drain. overall if this hostel was 7USD a night I could definitely accept it but 14.50USD a night is a rip off.

I really want to give this a good review because I love the concept of an Eco Hostel and the owner was really nice. But this is such a bad hostel and the description / photos are misleading. You cannot build a hostel with such flimsy buildings right next to a coast where hurricanes form… I did not pay this amount of money to sleep through nightly storms in a half-outdoor shed. This whole place needs to be rebuilt, I’m sorry
