The location was great, but there were definitely a few surprises. First, no hot water in the showers. The rooms are VERY hot. Be prepared. We knew there wasn’t AC, but didn’t expect that heat. It’s $20 a day for AC. The pool was nice & it’s a bit social. Only 1 shower was working really well. Overall, I guess you get what you pay for.

Mom and pop shop. Location is great, it’s right in the center of the strip and 2 mins walk to the beach. Not a very social hostel. Everyone keeps to their own. No social activity Rooms are very basic but clean. Private rooms without attached bathrooms are more like small cabins. Rooms with attached bathrooms are cramped but they r proper rooms. The host is extremely helpful. He goes out his way to accommodate your needs. He is knowledgeable and also guides u with the Do’s and don’t’s of Jaco.

Would not recommend for solo female travellers. I booked and paid for a 5 bed dorm, and was placed in an 8 bed with all men, and a very drunk group of men next door. They will accept anyone, in any state of mind and do not enforce quiet hours allowing parties at the pool all night. This hostel has more locals than backpackers and the atmosphere felt unsafe. A group of young men even felt that it was not right. Check in/ out was complicated as no one was at the reception.
