not sure why this hostels reviews are so bad, it's fine, the location is kinda far from a lot of the tourist things in Rio but the neighbourhood is safe, room was basic but clean, bathrooms were a little cramped and could have been cleaned more, but they have a nice pool and bar/restaurant on site, not great for meeting people if you're travelling solo but if not it's okay

-during 10 night stay I chased almost daily loud knocking of air con but no engineer attended. Kept awake at night despite wearing silicone ear plugs. -on arrival window was wide open in room - mosquito risk. - mattress sat on wooden pallets and no bed base. -exposed electrical wires on shower head- health and safety risk. - no laundry service + hot shower +external social area +two of the staff speak English +area around hostel safe and pleasant

We had no complaints with our 1 night stay. We had a private room which was clean and suited our needs for the night. Unfortunately the shower never really got warm and the safe didn't work, but the airconditioning was good. Staff were friendly and we actually had a really nice meal from the downstairs kitchen for dinner. We didn't use the pool but that also looked nice and clean.
