A bit far from everything except the lake, but it's alright. Seems mostly to be a hostel for Chinese folk though. Not that that's a bad thing, but the menu and signs were all poorly translated to the point of not really being decipherable. It got pretty rowdy on the weekend, but it all seemed to be people who lived there, so not much of a "meet travelers" atmosphere. The room was kind of grody and my locker was broken. Oh, and there were tons of cats who always seemed to be moaning loudly.

I was a little surprised at how middle-of-the-road this hostel was after reading reviews. They do provide quite a few tour options as well as cheap dorms and a funky and spacious common room, but I found the staff to be mostly aloof and the "atmosphere" to be not as Westerner-friendly as many other hostels in China and East Asia. Having done a lot of travel (particularly in China), I know there are better deals, cleaner accommodations, and friendlier places. Also, a bit of a hike from West Lake.

Among all the hostels in the world I stayed, this one is the worst ! And the staff there is a disaster ! besides, only one toilet in a room for 10 persons, and the toilet is inside the room, can you imagine ? ! almost everything there made me feel something is not right. Anyway, I'm feeling happy when leaving this hostel.

The hostel was a little bit out of the city centre, however ther is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill. The rooms were ok, matresses are very thin. The bathrooms were a little dirty and had no toilet paper. The room had lockers for security and were heated. The staff were ok, but one morning i was given a map of the city, and when i went to check out the next day, i was told by a different receptionist i owed them money for the map ? Despite not being told this when they gave it to me ??

Best value hostel in China! Loved this place. The bar/restaurant area is huge, and the nightly grill is excellent value and really good food. Vegan-friendly if you're so enclined.

Staff very nice, and helpful, although if they could help with train tickets that would help!! Room I stayed in was so cold, tried heating but didn't work. Other travellers very nice but not many could speak english. So loud around 5am every morning, Many people seem to live there for work and university, maybe??? not much entertainment at night, in fact none! I went on other reviews and was wrong. I love to party and get to know people too!!!!!

Hostel located next to the zoo, so its 'out of town', BUT great value for money. Some middle-class local students venture out here over the weekends, making for an excellent mix and atmosphere in the lounge area, which has really good BBQ food at very fair prices. The lounge is the biggest i have seen anywhere, with an actual-sized pool table and large TV, even a separate 'conference' room on another floor! Unfortunately, there is not a single no-smoking area to be found anywhere, cough cough..

4 Eyes has a lot going for it; excellent "character"; friendly and helpful staff; a pool table and library; showed movies at night on a projection TV; good value breakfast rmb16; nightly shish kebab BBQ of meats or vegetables at a reasonable prices rmb5; we were in the 10 bed room, only rmb20 but I would have been willing to pay more for less people per room, but smaller was 4x more... also most of the time the internet was worthless; good internet is a "must have" so we moved to another hostel
