I really liked this hostel. The staff is so great. They're really helpful and fun. One of them even took us to a karaoke bar one night! It was a great time! The location is excellent, just steps away from the geishas, right in Gion. Near lots of sights, restaurants, and bars. Overall highly highly recommended.
Stayed here for 4 nights, a group of girls but we stayed in a mix dorm (as it was cheaper) and met so many amazing people. The hostel cleans the room every morning however the sheets don't get changed. Rooms are a decent size and the showers are hot. Staff are friendly but not all could speak English. Great facilities, walking distance from gion and the nightlife strip. The kitchen and laundry service they provide is great and they have air con too! Good price!
Third time's a charm. The interactions at the fifth floor lounge were worth remembering.
Best value (and cheapest) hostel I went to. Would like to have stayed there longer.
i like everything about this hostel. and if they provide kitchen that will be perfect.
It is my second time to visit Kyoto and second time to stay at A-yado. The location is very good, since it is situated right at the heart of historic Gion district. Some notable temples can be reached by walking, while a number of them can be reached by Bus no. 206 which pass by the nearest bus station. I liked the dynamics of the people staying there when I was there. I really wish I could stay longer.
Great value. Spacious common area with TV and well-stocked kitchen, they stock lots of cup noodles which can save you a trip to the convenience store. The dorms are next to a bar, so it can get loud at night which is not so good if you are a light sleeper. Nevertheless, this is a very cheap and nice place to stay.
Definitely THE BEST hostel we've stayed at in Japan and maybe even the best hostel we've stayed at during our year travelling across Australia and Asia! Placed smack bang in the middle of Kyoto' s biggest geisha district and conveniently situated for access to both JR and subway trains. The staff here were awesome, so friendly and willing to show us all the hidden gems in Kyoto and for the rest of our stay in Japan. Stay here if you want a ridiculously cheap room rate, with a great atmosphere!
I really recommend this hostel! It's close to everything, the staff was kind and helpful, and the common room was very cosy.
The staff are awesome! They are friendly and help me actively!! Highly recommended! will definitely book again!
Located right in the middle of the Gion district, this hostel is clean and comfortable! It even offers washing of laundry for free (drying for a small fee); I didn't actually do laundry, but that's pretty nice! The only complaints is that the female dorm that I stayed in was a bit small, so it's a bit of a squeeze with luggage and all, but nothing that you can't get around.
The hostel is very well located and is close to most tourist attractions. The common area on the top floor is a really nice space =)
Good hostel in a great location with free lockers for your personal belongings. I particularly liked the common room, but it could have used a few more utensils (no kitchen knife for example). Female and male doors were a tad big, but it is on par for most dorm hostels. If they provide a little more in the kitchen department this hostels' rating would bump up easily.
It has really friendly staff and a decent lounge area, and I met some really awesome people there. The only thing I didn't like was that the room was really hot and dry which led me to be unable to sleep through most of the night. They put the heater on too high and the room got really stuffy (not good when some people were sick and coughing). If they could add better ventilation then I'd highly recommend this place. Otherwise I only enjoyed it because I met some cool people there luckily.
We hade a great stay at A-yado Gion. We slept in the 8 bed mixed dorm, it's a bit cramed, but the places is really clean and has a great location so it doesn't matter. Would definitly recommend staying at this hostel, great value for money.
I loved this hostel!!! In a great location in the heart of Gion - beautiful Geisha district. The dorm room had curtains around each bunkbed making it much easier to have darkness in your cubicle and get a better night's sleep. The room has 1 toilet (with heated seat !) and 2 showers. The common room has free tea and coffee, toast for breakfast, drinking water, and drinks and snacks for sale at excellent value - cheaper than 7eleven and watsons! Loads of guidebooks/brochures available too!
Stayed here for one night. The place is easy to find and located near many places to visit. I shared a room with ten other guys but there were no problems and facilities were fine. Good value for the price.
Things was good with the common lounge arrangement but the dorm is a bit cramp though.
This place has a good buzz. The staff are very friendly and gave me invaluable advice and information for my remaining time in Kyoto and for my travels in other parts of Japan. It was really helpful for me that they spoke such good english. The common room also has good resources of guide books to look at. Dark curtains around bunk beds would be really helpful for keeping out the light, as the main light stayed on til very late. Apart from that, a great place to stay and I'd return. Thanks!
