Either provide breakfast or don't. The free piece of bread, while a thoughtful gesture, is just odd. Loved the Wii in the common room though! And 4 controllers will mean more people can meet there.

The only thing negative I can think to say about the place is there are not any cooking facilities but they do provide cheap food and drinks in the common room. staff are super super helpful and the location is so good. will stay here again.

A-yado Gion is one of the best hostel I have ever seen. It looks like it has been renovated recently and is kept in very good condition. It provides everything that a backpacker need - either for free (like shampoo, hair-drier, dishes) or for a small additinal charge (like towels). The stuff is young and friendly. There is also free guidebooks and free Wifi. Finally, hostel is located in Gion, Kyoto's most famous geisha district; a few minutes walk to many othet famous places. Evaluation: A+++

We had a very enjoyable, comfortable and informative stay at A-yado. The beds were very comfortable, the showers clean and hot and the staff went above and beyond their call of duty. We dealt with three different staff members during our three night stay and all were absolutely fantastic. Common room was great also and the free toast for breakfast saved time for more sightseeing. Location was amazing also. Definitely recommend!

This place is amazing! The staff were so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless with great facilities. Plus the free tea and coffee and bread in the morning is a nice bonus! Great location too

The stay here was really nice. The staff was very helpful. He gave us directions to sights and eateries around. Umbrellas could be rented from here for free. The hostel was clean and it was perfect for backpackers. The location was brilliant and was surrounded with a lot of food options, party options and bus stops which would take you all around in Kyoto. It was much much cheaper to get one-day bus passes from this hostel. It was really a bonus point.

Enjoyed my time there. The staff speaks good English and is very friendly and helpful. Great location - within walking distance of Teramachi, and close to many of the east-side shrines and temples.

Thank you so much for our stay in A-yado! Had to move rooms twice but it was no problem, and I was able to check in early. The female dorms are a bit tight, but still nice, with curtains around the beds for privacy. The sinks and showers are in the dorms, so can be a bit noisy in the girls, where everything is so close, but as a heavy sleeper it was not problem for me. Also beware of karaoke bar in same building, again, may prove a problem for light sleepers.

Staff was great. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The facilities were great as well. Very efficient, clean, and you've got everything you'll need. They sell city bus passes as well which makes it extremely convenient for the tourist. The staff and hostel seem like they've been in business for a while and know how it all rolls. Great value for the price as well. They've got two private showers in the dorm room which is great. Great location as well....just a few blocks from Gion.

The location is a little bit hard to find since several people know where is shinomiya street. The location is good though, and you can walk to the bus stop and gion just in 5 minutes. Thanks for you break as breakfast!!!!”

staff were very helpful, but not much going on as far as hostel organised events. its in the gion area which is very nice, a bit of a walk to the downtown area, but a nice walk by the river

Cheap, nice staff, good facilities in the common room (including a Nintendo Wii!), nice enough shower and good location. However, the room STANK horrendously the whole time, the doors were never locked, even on a night when staff weren't there and the whole place just lacked character. I was very tempted to leave when I arrived and smelled the room, managed to put up with it for 3 days though. Just made sure I spent as little time in the room as possible. You get what you pay for I suppose......

Staff is really great. Super helpful. After a few days of returning from a trip to Osaka and Nara, they allowed me to use the common computers before catching my night bus to Tokyo.
