Charming place, loved the garden. The bunk beds were a bit uncomfortable, and there were no lockers, otherways a good hostel.

This was a place where I didn´t feel like staying in a Hostel. It felt a little bit like being home and that was so great. The owners really love what they are doing and you can see this in lots of small details everywhere in the Hostel. It was so lovely there, I can´t stay in a big crowded Hostel anymore.

Really nice, characterful hostel. I had a nice double room, lovely and bright, well-furnished. Great to have the initial free wifi, and reasonably-priced additional wifi credit available. Glad to be able to get wifi in my room. Really good kitchen-cleaning system - so it was good to be able to go in there early and find it immaculate! Hostel manager and other visitors also really nice - generally a really nice place. Thanks for your hospitality and for a pleasant first few nights in NZ!

A very good hostel for people who are looking for a calm and relaxing place with good facilities and very nice and helpful staff. Great alternative to the "party-hostels" in the city center. I really enjoyed my stay!

We just stayed one night but the hostel looked like a nice place. We arrived late and there was a mix up with the keys and room we had to stay. Fortunately the owner lives there and he was able to solve the issue right away. Lady at the front desk was very helpful and provided useful information.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Was amazed at the array of condiments which were available for everyone to use in the kitchen. Also pleased that there was no TV as it encouraged people to chat.

Extremely homey, everyone was relaxed and easy to get on with. Very easy to get to via the bus and even walking. In a beautiful area of town. Rooms were very clean and tidy as were the bathrooms. There are no lockers in the rooms, but I still felt my items were safe and secure. Excellent kitchen! Fitted out with everything you could possibly need utensil wise, but also spice wise. If you want a hostel where you'll feel at home, this is it.

All and all great hostel. In huge coverted house located on a quiet residential street in a very pretty part of the city with close access to the link buses and within easy walkig distance of downtow. The owner, Ian, is great. Very lai back vibe - lots of lon term travelers and people staying for prolonged periods. The lines could use an update, other than that, no complaints -would stay here again

NEVER AGAIN!The first time I stayed there a backbag got stolen over night. The second time I was there someone kicked me out of the computer room at 10pm because his room was behind the computer room, so he wanted to lock it from the inside in oder to have quiteness. They should not offer internet if it's such a hassle to use it. Furthermore reception is open only during certain hours during the day.If you checkout or checkin late/early there is a weird system for picking up or dropping off keys.

The atmosphere in CGL was what made the hostel a real treat to stay in. It was very easy to find like minded people. It's not a party hostel so if that's what you're looking for this isn't it. It's a quaint house turned hostel that has people sitting around talking and chilling out before going out for the night. The dorm I stayed in was clean, can't complain. The location is about a 25 min walk from the city centre, the bus stop is just a 3 min walk.
