We were double-booked at the City Garden Lodge and did not spend any part of the stay there. Ian, the owner did speak to another hostel owner and had alternate arrangement ready on our arrival - this inconvenience was highly unappreciated!
City International: The owner at the other hostel was not easy to contact, a lady at reception was far friendlier and helpful! However, we were settled in quickly and given options for stay.

A good, comfortable place to stay with spacious communal areas. Ian was very helpful advising on places to visit (Newmarket shops being one) and arranging my early morning airport shuttle. Not a party place but then nor is Parnell. Recommended!A good, comfortable place to stay with spacious communal areas. Clean, cozy, and comfortable! I'd stay here again in a heartbeat! The room (2 twins) was spacious, the kitchen was well-maintained, and the showers were great, especially at night. We loved this location, as it was only a short (and cheap) bus ride into the city or down to the harbour, and it was a short walk to the Auckland Domain and the Museum. Definitely recommend!Clean, cozy, and comfortable! I'd stay here again in a heartbeat! Ian was of great help to us. We didn't know what we wanted to do when we got to Auckland, and he had some really good suggestions. Close to the Auckland Museum and Winter Garden but not much else. The flourecent green bus takes you into town for $2.60NZ but it is far easier to stay in Auckland instead. This hostel has an excellent 3 station kitchen and is quiet and peaceful. Not much action close to the hostel though...more for relaxing! Only one area for (2) showers on the 1st floor and the (1) available bathroom sink is in a different (no door)room. Close to the Auckland Museum and Winter Garden but not much else.
