Hostelworld says:
Cocomama was voted the best in the Netherlands at the 2011 Hoscars and it's not hard to see why-guests have said this boutique hostel is 'the opposite to the big corporate hostels that lack character', with clean, newly furnished rooms 'done up to the small detail'. Hostelworld reviewers tell us the staff 'love their city [and] will give you all the info you need on where to go', making this hostel feel 'like a home away from home'. We particularly like the resident cat and the large back garden.
Property Information:
What could be more exciting and unique than to stay in a place that was Amsterdam's most famous brothel back in the day?
Cocomama is housed in a monumental building, complete with high ceilings, chandeliers and lots of daylight.
Our rooms are decorated with different Dutch themes, to give you a real Holland experience. Youll find comfortable beds, lockers, power outlets and a shower in your room, but we really want you to come and hang out with us and other travellers in the common areas.
We're fortunate enough to have a large sunny garden where you can find some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There's also a fully-equipped kitchen, free Internet, a movie corner and tons of activities organised by our staff.
We've got the cleanliness, professionalism and boutique style of a high-end hotel but without the stiff formality and prices. Not only will you be referred to by your first name but our friendly staff will go above and beyond to share their local knowledge and make your stay memorable and pleasant.
Feeling a bit homesick? Our cat Joop is a real friendly cutie and is waiting for you in our common area!

What puts us ahead of the rest is our many little extras, like cheap bike rental, private hostel boat tours, our cuddly hostel cat Joop and the free pasta, rice, oil, spices and coffee/tea in the kitchen! For fun our guests join in on one of our many activities, like Tight Ass Tuesday (beer and pasta for €3), movie night, the booze cruise, Nintento NES battles and more. Our hostel is run and owned by young, energetic ladies with outstanding local knowledge of Amsterdam. We especially recommend that people go biking or boating through Amsterdam - it gives you a total different and local view of the city.

We're also close to Albert Cuyp Market (two minutes' walk), the Heineken Brewery (five minutes' walk), Museum Square (5-10 minutes' walk) and the bars, restaurants and clubs of Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein (10 minutes' walk).- Anika, Owner/Manager

One of the best hostels I've stayed AT. Clean, cozy, great services and staff, and even though the location is not right in the heart of the city, it's a short walk away from the main sights. To feel more like Amsterdam than in the most touristy areas in the center.
