Had a lovely stay in San Gill thanks to the helpful staff at El Dorado. We went on a caving tour with them which is probably one of my Colombian highlights, it is very conveniently located right in the middle of town, there is always fresh coffee, a cute sitting area and some friendly faces. Unfortunately their security lockers didn't feel very secure but this shouldn't deter you from staying with them as their staff are always on hand to mind the rooms regardless.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. They often offer food when they're cooking. Beds are comfortable, with fans to take off the edge of the heat there. Good kitchen and a nice garden to relax in. It's 20m from the main square which is really fun/tranquil/beautiful at night (depending when you go). The activities they offer are really good - definitely recommend the canyoning.

It´s a very quiet place despite all the people. It has a good an chill vibe. Staff was great, very friendly. Fabio, Sandra and Fabian treated us as family. The caving experience was amazing.

The staff are awesome, really really helpful. Dorms are basic but you don't really need much more. The kitchen is good and the location is great. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The only thing rooms dint have windows and it would get dark and hot in the bedroom ...otherwise it was great for the small price you pay!

Definitely one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in.I stayed in Sam's VIP Hostel in San Gil,and this one,and I think El Dorado is far better. It is clean, with a great lay-out, a chilled inside area and a very cool outside part where it is super easy to meet people. And the guys who run it are amazing!!!Within seconds you feel like they are old friends. Then I fell ill and Fabio sat with me in hospital for 2 full days as I was on my own.Great hostel, amazing people, what more do you want?!!! :)

The staff were very nice and helpful, and helped us get a bus to Santa Marta for 80.000COP with tickets delivered to our room. We checked at the terminal and they sell tickets for 110.000 or 85.000 for touristas, which didn't make much sense to me but whatever, it worked! Downside was no hot showers, no towels and very strict quiet hrs at 11pm (no teeth brushing!). The canyoning trek was fun though and I hear the mtn biking through gringo mikes is killer. They also have really good food there.

I have nothing but great things to say about this hostel. Fabio (owner) gave a masterclass on service and not only was super friendly, but took time out to take me to the pharmacy as i had been sick for weeks with stomach issues. He provided me with a map highlighting all the important areas, and gave great info on activities available in San Gil. The paragliding has been one of the highlights of my south american trip. The facilities and rooms are of a high standard also. One of the best!

Lovely backpacker's hostel next to the main square. Two showers for all the rooms (4 or 5?) are enough, a huge table in the common area is a good place to eat together. A TV area is there and a free computer to access the internet for free as well.

What an amazing hostel in a beautiful part of Colombia. There's so much to do and see in San Gil and fabio, Louis and all the staff at el dorado make it such a easy and enjoyable experience. So friendly and helpful in every way and all the tours they run thru the hostel are amazing and great value for money. The spotless hostel is perfectly located right in the heart of town and the staff run it like a big home and treat the guests as such,. So much fun to be had. Highly recommended!!
