Book 3 nights. Room is very small and humid smell due to no window. But if you're lucky, you get room with window that's better. Only 1 staff can speak english and she's very helpful. Location is nice, close to local street cuisines.

Even though it's normal to find very small bedrooms in Hong Kong, this one at Golden island Guesthouse was even smaller. I was just staying for the weekend and I live in Macau so I just took a hand luggage, but two people staying in that room with two large (20 to 30kg) luggage wouldn't fit there. The place is clean and recently renewed, which is nice, but the water gets cold very fast. Someone using shampoo and conditioner would have to shower with cold water in the last part.

We're lucky getting room with window so the air smells better than other rooms without windows. But 1st time we come, nobody speaks english so we have to wait for someone to come and help with language. Only one girl understand. Typical Hong Kong room, it's bit small but quite good.

The staff was unclear/never mentioned many room related things. e.g. that they don't change your sheets ever, do not take out the very small garbage (it's self-serve), no new towels are given, etc.

Price/value not good but maybe that is because hostels are quite expensive in HK.

The staff's English was pretty bad, and they didn't offer advice other than answering specific questions. Our room was cramped and didn't have a window. The price was probably higher than normal since we stayed there around new year's eve.

They transferred me to another hotel nearby. This hotel was ok, but without anyone speaking English, it was difficult to know what they intented. It would be useful if someone who speaks English would be there and explain what is going on.

Staff were mostly very friendly. A little bit troublesome for sharing room as the key is kept with the receptionist and you got to ask to enter your room each time. The bathroom was clogged so water rises as you shower and the bed can be very small. So if you are a big guy, like me, it might get a little tight. Over all, value for money and not bad for a place to just crash for the nights.

My 2nd time here! The staffs were helpful and friendly which make our stays very pleasant. The room was clean, free towel, air conditioner, had good wifi. Negatives: Toilet is too small and the wall is not sound proof. Anyway you just need a room to stay in HK and won't spend 24hrs there so I will still recommend GIG.

Although it was tidied every day, the cleanness of the room wasn’t great: the sheets and towels had stains, and a smell just wasn’t fresh. Because of poor ventilation (there was no openable window) the room was very damp and had a specific smell. On the bright side the location was great, we could get to all the major attraction from the bus stops or the subway both of which were really nearby the guest house.

The staff was very kind and it was what I expected for the most part. I think it would be nice if there was a microwave or refrigerator on each floor instead of only the 7th floor, and there were ants in the room, but otherwise it was clean and a nice stay.

In a good location with the night markets only steps away. Generally ok all round. Basically, you're paying for basics but for me they need new bed linen as it looked dirty but it smelt clean so fingers crossed! Good for a couple nights stay in Hong Kong.

This is good for a cheap hostel. Good: It was clean, air con, had good wifi, free wanted and coffee, free towel, and provided tiny lockers for your valuables. I also found the staff to be pleasant during our brief interactions (don't expect a tour guide though!) Negative: Rock hard beds, very low on security - no locker for you big bag, no lock on the room door, and pretty much no checks on the main entrance. Seems like anyone could walk into your room from the street.

Hong Kong is notoriously fickle with hostel prices, especially weekends. Golden Island came in as a useful stopgap a couple of times when other places were full or overpriced. Jessie the owner is reasonable, if not especially attentive. There is a scattiness apparent re access to dorms (e.g. never offered a key & had to rap on the door at 2am to be let in by the denizens) & general lack of savvy, co-ordination nor bonhomie. Still, well located, functional & nothing all that bad to say about it.

Just too small space. 4 persons in less than 10m2

Very nice room, friendly staff. I wanted to stay longer but sadly they were booked out!

I loved the location, it was amazing and just off Nathan Road and metres from the amazing Temple Market. The main lady was extremely friendly also. This is basic accommodation but has everything you need - main downside is the loo and the shower are together.
