I stayed 4 nights in total in Galeria 13, the location is great but most of all, the staff is extremely helpfull and nice. And... the caipirinhia happy hour is fantastic to meet all the travellers !! Thank you Galeria 13 Pascale (France)

This has to be one of the best hostels I have stayed in all my travels. Everyone on the staff was super friendly, including the lovely lady who baked the delicious cakes for breakfast and the cat that tried to drink some of my mango juice. The free caipirinha hour was a great way to meet new people and the free breakfast until noon (yes, noon!) was at par with that in any fancy B&B. The aircon in the rooms was a welcome plus in the crazy summer heat. Don't miss this place!

Great time. The Pelourinho is a noisy albeit lively area of town. We could also hear some noise from the rooms upstairs. Overall, we had a great time at Galeria 13, we appreciated that the staff suggested different activities/events every day. We did the walking tour offered and thought it was excellent.

Sitting on the outside terraces, the hostel feels like any beautiful corner of the latitudes between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. It's a lovely oasis, a good place to stay, very helpful people, excellent information-giving and enjoyable cross-section of guests. Touristic hotspot, Pelourhino, can be overpowering with noise and mixed denizens, but Galerai 13 is a very good base. Oh yes, Caiparinha Happy Hour very enjoyable, too.

The surrounding area at night can be a little risky but common sense and you will be fine. Tuesdays are a big night. Free caiprinia hour at 5.15 is a really social event and you will meet people to go out eat/drink with. AC at night in the rooms is welcome. Overall the hostel is very well thought out and the staff make an effort to make you comfortable. I would highly recommend this hostel.

The staff were really friendly. However, the bathroom wasn't clean and the room was filthy as the 10 bed dorm was full and guests were leaving stuff everywhere making for an overall unpleasant stay.

Owner Comment (Show)
i imagine the guest understood it was a 10 bed dorm in the most popular hostel of Salvador,so there is always a chance of some grubby fellow guests. To say the bathrooms were dirty implies we dont take care ,i would find that hard to believe?? We do have some great doubles so if you are after more space try one ,and you have your private bathrrom too . There is of course or our new house too, less people normaly.

Need more bathrooms for the dorms. 10 people per bathroom is terribly inconvenient

Its our biggest problem now since we are often nearly always full. Thanks for still giving us a good review,Remember we have some great doubles and our other house close by so you can ask, We are trying to buy a tiny house next door just to make more baths but at the moment not interested.

Good, sociable hostel, with great breakfast and knowledgeable staff and friendly owner. However, it's very noisy (not guests, or regular Salvador madness, but the staff!). Staff and families make a lot of noise early in the morning. Also staff are in and out of the rooms day and night, turning on the lights, playing with the fans and air-con, moving personal belongings to make the beds daily. It's just not necessary and is intrusive. Also 1 bathroom/toilet in a 10 bed dorm is not sufficient.
