Amazingly friendly and helpful staff with excellent English spoken and great advice on sight seeing. Best ramen restaurant in Kyoto a short walk away and also a yummy sushi place. Nice spacious rooms for Japan and clean facilities. Definitely the best place we have stated on a 2 month Asia holiday - cannot recommend highly enough!

Mr What Can I Say is the best. He is a hero. A brother legend. He will sort you out with everything. What a guy!

Beautiful traditional building with gorgeous comfortable rooms. Staff were lovely and very helpful they have good local knowledge and are happy to share it with you. Free bike rental to go to bath house in the evening is great. We had a lovely time and wish we could have stayed longer.

I loved this quaint little hostel. It definitely has character and there's a nice common room that kind of gives a family sort of feel. The female dorm is very small so I wouldn't suggest an extended stay there, but it was clean and comfortable and there were lockers for valuables. Kobayashi was a wonderful host and very helpful.

A charming old house with friendly and helpful staff. Our room was otherwise comfortable, but it was rather drafty during the nights.

The staff person was amazing with his hospitality and helpfulness. The hostel is very clean and centrally located. The only thing lacking about this hostel was that there was no kitchen to speak of, just an area for washing and making coffee and tea. The shared bunk rooms were more cramped than usual for hostels, but overall a very nice place to stay

This Hostel is so great!! We didn't find anything to complain about. The Host is so incredibly friendly. He speaks very good English and is always willing to help you with any question or problem you may have. The atmosphere of the old Japanese building makes your stay there very special. It's very close to Kyoto Station and buses to other sightseeing spots leave right in front of the hostel.

The staff was unbelievably helpful and nice. The place was very clean and in a very good location. There was no kitchen and dining area to speak of, however, but there was a living room to rest and relax.

Kobayashi was so accommodating and told us about all the best places to visit in Kyoto (map, bus ticket, and personal recommendations included). It's a hostel with the service of a hotel. Brilliant.

This is a wonderful place to stay! The guesthouse is a beautiful, old Japanese style house and everything is spotlessly clean. The facilities are also excellent. The owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. He told us lots of great places to go to and see in Kyoto. The only suggestion for improvement is that the directions be changed a little because it is a bit hard to find.

Staying here was an experience in itself. Great original old wooden house, not trying to be a fancy ryokan. The owner was just wonderful. Open-minded travelers will enjoy staying here, people expecting fancy pampered hotel living should go elsewhere. I'd stay here again anytime! Thanks so much!

The staff here were excellent however the dorms are too crowded so that there is little room to move. A small room has 6 beds in it whereas with 4 beds it would be comfortable. The outside toilets in winter were also a point against this hostel.

If you fly light, it is the best choice for you. If you would like to have a Japanese traditional experience, it will be smart to stay here for at least 2 nights. If you need a friendly introduction about activities around that area, the owner is the kindest to offer any information you need. I traveled with my young daugher and my friend, and we were lucky to feel just like at home here for 3 nights.

very good place. I must have good time in japan. Though it is a little small , you will feel comfortable like at home. There is a hotter under table in the lobby . When everyone came back, sitting together and chat with each other.
