Chillout Hostel is a calm, clean, and friendly space located in the safe and trendy Barrio Escalante neighborhood of San José. Perfect for solo travelers, digital nomads, and guests seeking a relaxed atmosphere, great sleep, fast Wi-Fi, and a comfortable stay.

We are based in Barrio Escalante, one of San José’s best districts for food, coffee, and nightlife. The neighborhood is safe, vibrant, and walkable, with downtown San José just a short walk or quick Uber ride away.

Check-in, Check-out & Reception

Reception Hours:

09:00 AM – 09:00 PM (English-speaking staff)

09:00 PM – 07:00 AM (Spanish-speaking security staff only)

Late Arrival: Please notify us in advance if you plan to check in after 11:00 PM.

Early Arrival: If arriving before 2:00 PM (check-in time), please email us so we can instruct you on leaving your luggage until check-in.

Luggage Storage: Available until 5:00 PM on both your check-in and check-out days.

Passport Required: A physical passport must be presented at check-in by all guests.

Payment: Cash only at check-in (USD or Costa Rican colones).

Room & Bed Assignment Rules

Age Limit (Shared Rooms): Guests in shared dorms must be under 45 years of age.

Bed Allocation: Neither top nor bottom bunks can be reserved or guaranteed. Guests must be agile enough to use top bunks with no physical limitations requiring a bottom bunk. Moving to an unassigned bed will result in a fee for the additional bed.

Bring a Padlock: Please bring your own padlock for the bed lockers.

Maximum Stay: 7-day maximum stay limit.

Hostel Rules & Environment

Chill Atmosphere: We are strictly not a party hostel.

Quiet Hours: Start at 10:00 PM daily.

Non-Smoking Property: Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the premises.

Alcohol Policy: High-proof liquor is not permitted. Guests are responsible for their behavior at all times; excessive intoxication outside that causes a disturbance inside will result in immediate cancellation without a refund.

Zero Tolerance: Racist, discriminatory, or disruptive behavior is not tolerated. Guests who break house rules may be asked to leave without a refund.

Group Limit: Groups larger than 5 people are not accepted (even across separate bookings) and will be canceled without a refund.

Cancellations & Terms

Cancellation Policy: Free cancellation up to 2 days before arrival.

No Refunds After Check-in: Refunds are not issued once check-in is complete.

Liability: Chillout Hostel and its staff assume no responsibility for personal accidents, injuries, or the loss of money, jewelry, or valuables.

Right of Admission: We reserve the right to cancel any booking. Booking with us constitutes full acceptance of these terms.
