Not so good Not so Bad. Maybe just a little bit too many hosts for only one bathroom. And not enough heater in the common room. But possibility to buy some cheap second hand Kimonos & Yukata. ;-)

It was nice little ryokan with a fun atmosphere. The buildings were separated so we had to walk a few minutes to get to the common area, the check-in desk, and the dining area. It was all so close though that it didn't make much of a difference. We stayed in a private room with an attached bathroom. It was more like a private apartment with a tatami mat room and futons, which was nice. The room looked like it hadn't been vacuumed though and there was an old half drunk coke bottle in the fridge.

A nice hostel to get the japanese living style life. But a bit expensive.

This is one of the best hostel I have ever stayed! Very traditional Japanese style, the room is clean and the staff is very helpful.

Cool place with traditional Japanese rooms. Staff is awesome. Location very good, 10-15 min walk to Kyoto station (depending on how fast you walk) and there is a subway station (Gojo) 2 min away. Only negative is that its very expensive.

Overall a really good place. Great location and friendly staff. Good facilities (basic in the rooms but this is to be expected in East Asia) and safe area, great value for money. Only thing I would criticise is that the lock on my door wasn't great - it needed a lot of jiggling and fiddling to work; and the room smelled a bit musty. That being said these are just minor problems and easily fixed. Without a doubt I'd recommend this place to anyone and I would stay there again.

I really love the neighborhood where this ryokan situates. The staff members were really helpful, and you can rent kimono from the ryokan for your day at a price of 4500YEN per person (updated in Jan2013).

My husband and I stayed here in January 2013. It was a great choice. It was economical (for the area it seems) and friendly. The house seemed very Japanese and the staff was very helpful. The location is 10 minutes from the station walking and was easy to arrive there when we first got into Kyoto and then also easy to navigate different parts of the city from there. True there are three seperate buildings but that wasn't a problem for us. We stayed in the en suite but it we could have shared

I LOVED this hostel, perhaps it was one of the best places I have ever stayed at. I don't get what people complained about. Staff are as lovely more than you can imagine, hostel is so clean and spotless. Comfy sleeping area and the kimono experience was so much fun!!!!!!! I would go back to Kyoto and only stay there. Thanks to all the amazing people who made our stay so freakin awesome. Love love love!

Nice and cozy place located in a cool neighborhood. Definitely recommend trying out their breakfast at least once. bus and train stops right around the corner or a 10-15mins walk into city. Staff are all traditionally dressed and are quite friendly and helpful.

Excellent value for money hostel. Clean, tidy, with a lot of characters. I stayed in private single room which was actually quite spacious (2 stories). It has everything you need. Friendly and helpful staff members who speak good English and can provide tips and directions. Would definitely come back again. I recommend this place to any backpackers.
