The hostel did not provide good directions and I got lost a bit. It is located near Exit 9 of the Keihan Gion-Shijo underground station, not "in front of" the station as stated. The staff at the reception/sake bar was helpful and friendly. The location is very convenient, with bus stops, train lines, subway lines very close by, and the Ponchodori and Gion right there. The facilities were very functional and clean, nothing to complain about.

Great hostel, the staff here are really friendly and the building is very modern and smart. The Sake bar down stairs is also really good. It's very close to the subway and easy to get to from the main station. There is also a nice view from the dorm balcony. Highly recommended...

Perfect spot in the centre of the Geisha disctric. Good and clean rooms. The only two problems were: one toilet only on the entire floor, and the fact that they do not serve a real breakfast. But they can point some nice bakeries around.

I thought Jam Hostel was a great place to stay in Kyoto. The staff was very nice and helpful and the Sake Bar is a great place to sample different Sake from around the country and enjoy a few appetizers. The "breakfast" is merely water and tea (with a free "Toaster".... not toast) which I felt was a little strange. Other than that, the rooms were clean and the hostel was in a great location, close to subways and walking distance from several nice places to see in town.

Great staff, all of them. Always available to help and gave me plenty of very good tips, they really made me enjoy the stay in Kyoto. And they made me love sake too ;)

If you like socializing as part of hostel life, this wasn't so great, I chatted with my roommates a bit but there's no common room, just a (nice) bar. Otherwise it was clean, safe, in a GREAT location, not just being in Gion but also right next to the train station. The staff were really helpful. Can't recommend it enough as an affordable and pleasant hotel-substitute.

Very nice experience; staff is attentive and know how to help you during your travel. Furthermore, the "Sake bar" is really cool!!

Staff was misleading when giving city information. Got lost sometimes and missed the imperial palace for that.

Perfect location of getting the most poor of Kyoto. Only a bonus that it had such good rates. We doesn't two nights in the dorm, it was perfect for us.

The location is easy to find and near to Gion main street. The staff is nice and helpful, and also the lounge on 5th floor is nice. But the dorm room is too small and dark, and it is really cold. Wifi is able but the connection is quite slow.

Large lockers, nice clean facilities, and nice rooms. Sake bar was nice as well. Staff varied in helpfulness for finding stuff around the city, but overall everyone was nice. The hostel itself was nice, but did not have too much character.

This was a really nice hostel. I had a room in the 6 mix dorm and this was the best bunkbed I slept on during my Japan trip. The staff is really nice and helpfull and although there isn't a common room the sake bar downstairs makes up for it. Good place for meeting people. The only thing it is missing, is a kitchen. Besides that, excellent place to stay!

As a female traveling alone in Kyoto, I felt very safe. Had a lot of help from the kind staff at the hostel and met some great people in my shared rooms. Definitely would recommend this hostel.

A clean, professionally run hostel right in the middle of georgeous Kyoto. Who could ask for more? Right next to the metro stop, across the road from the river and an easy walk to the shopping districts and temples. Good showers too!

Extremely well located and very good value for money. However, very tightly packed, minimal facilities and low on atmosphere. If you are looking for cheap and well located accommodation and don't mind being in very tight quarters, then this is a good choice. If you prefer a more communal environment this may not be your best choice.

A nice place, I stayed in the dorm & felt alright. Clean. However, please correct and give a detailed address in English. (It's just different from the japanese version. Even the locals could't tell me where exactly the hostel was.) o_O

All around great. Only thing is other than the bar there isn't really a communal area.

This hostel was such a good find! The location is really excellent - right on the river in Gion and very nearby many train stations. Everything felt very clean, new and modern and I loved having the sake bar downstairs! The staff were always helpful and accommodating and I would definitely stay here again!

Kyoto is a beautiful city. When you have the chance to come to Kyoto, you should really go to Jam Hostel! Everything gets cleaned very well every day and the staff is always willing to help you out or to help you find your way in Kyoto. If you like sake, you can go to the sake bar downstairs. Just to relax, or to have a nice talk with the staff. The choice in sake is broad, as they have all different kinds from all different regions. I can really recommend Jam Hostel. I had a perfect time!
