Very clean, and in an amazingly convenient location. Close to Yasuka shrine and a few minutes walk to major shopping centers and excellent restaurants and cafes. Would definitely choose to stay here again.
Great location with just 30 seconds walk from both MRT station and bus stop. Friendly and helpful staff :)

A nice place well located in Gion, it has an interesting bar at the ground floor. Good for a stay, especially during the Autumn season where you can explore various corners around the hostel for good pictures of Autumn leaves.

The 'lounge' was basically a 4-seat table and fridge shoved into a small storage room. Not exactly a place you can relax.
Great Location, close to many sightseeing and dining options. The bar at the street level has great staff to chat after a day of temple spotting. The 8 bed dorm is much larger than the 6 beds one, and it is by the showers. Common area is not great, but the bar is much better option. Definitively would stay here again.
Common space is a bit too small; besides, there is no microwave.
No big surprise. I would be grateful if there is a kitchen. Also it is perfect for those who like drinking. Overall, it is a comfortable place to stay.
Well i can't really grade this hostel as my husbond, our 7 month old son and I was refuser to stay there. In the stress of finding a place to stay in Kyoto on a weekend, We forgot to read the fine print. When We arrived, We Were told that they don't allow babies. We were ofcourse surprised, but more in chok over the total lack of understanding for our situation. They didn't offer to help us find something els and they had no problem potentially letting a 7 month old baby sleep in the Streets.
Stayed in a mixed dorm and the place was clean and warm, with decent showers. Hostel did not have much of a common area and at night you don't really have a place to hang out without being an annoyance to others trying to sleep. Excellent location right next to the Gion district, and within walking distance of downtown. Excellent Sake bar acts as a daytime common area, and the staff were friendly and helped us choose some of the many available Sakes to sample, and places to visit in the city.
An excellent value for money stay, right next to the subway and very close to the night life area. I only wish there was a common area where I could have gotten to meet people not in my room. That apart, the Sake bar was superb! The staff was very helpful and helped me get my pocket WiFi unit working. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended for Kyoto.
Nice hostel with very friendly and helpful staff. They do not have a female dorm, that's the only negative thing I can say. Excellent location with good access to transport options to the sightseeing in Kyoto.
I stayed here only one night and it was ok. The room was very small, but clean (my bed was very comfortable and that´s what matters to me!), some of the staff were very nice and helpful, but some others could only speak some words in English (and I couldn´t speak any Japanese, unfortunately), coffee free and nice bar in the hostel. Very good location in Gion!
I absolutely loved this place. My biggest mistake: I did not book my full stay in Kyoto. This place is one of the best I have seen in Japan.
Very clean and comfortable beds. I recommend staying in the 6 bdrm as it incl a sink, toilet and a balcony in the room. Surprisingly spacious for a Japanese hostel and the staff are nice and helpful. The sake bar downstairs is a great place to meet others and the Gion neighbourhood is central. I recommend renting a bike to explore Kyoto!
strategic location, great stuff, clean environment ... night life~ not good for foreigners but good night life.for japanese (japanese style )
Jam hostel is very good located in Gion, has access to several bus and two railway lines. Going around is quite simple. The hostel stuff helps with information about Kyoto. Also the Sake Bar downstairs offers a wide variety of sakes from all over Japan - a special treatment for gourmets. The only negative point is the lack of storage space inside the dorms for big luggage. All others are fine or better: shower, every bed is eqipped with outlet and reading light, free wifi, hot drinks.
Jam is a lovely place to stay. Although it is small, and lacks a real common room, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The sake bar downstairs was great, and getting to sleep was not an issue. All in all a very fine place to stay if you are not looking for anything too fancy.
Clean, perfect location, nice staff. The hotel is missing a cosy communual area.
