Very nice hostel with great atmosphere. The common room is big and always full of other travelers, so it's easy to get company even if you're traveling alone. Dorms are clean and every bed has own curtains, so there's still a bit privacy. The location in central is just perfect. There is some attractions in walking distance, and bus stops and metro station are nearby.

Dorm room has key-lockers provided, room door has key-lock. Solid bunks. One lamp and electrical outlet per bunk. Fairly reliable internet. Staff are great - very nice and helpful. Local university students organize social events on Thursday evenings (had okonimiyaki night, then takoyaki party). Family Mart and onigiri stall nearby, Lawson 100yen shop down the street, a couple of long shopping arcades on the other side of Shijo, Gion, Pontochō, Takashimaya, bus stops, Hankyū, Keihan, subway...

this khaosan was better then the tokyo annex khaosan, as it had more washroom and shower facilities. Very clean, modern, effficient... and was Japanese as it had tatami mats in its lounge area, very cool! big kitchen and lounge and GREAT location on Taramachi Avenue! The Promenade cafe nextdoor is cheap and killer too!

Khaoson Kyoto was a great place to stay during our time in Japan. We were in a 4-bunk room, which seemed a nice alternative to a private room or a larger, bunk room. Access was easy, and the staff was really friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this location, and check out their other location in Tokyo if you're visiting there, too.

In my opinon the staff was quite arrogant and the so called guesthouse was more like a backpackers- factory to me. This place is about earning money and not about hosting people.

Great hostel, very good location right in the center of Kyoto. Big common room with kitchen. Great atmosphere, many travelers. Little bit expensive, but it's definately worth staying here. Very clean, many facilities, no waiting lines in the bathroom. Staff is friendly, but they can act a bit bored or not interested if you have a question. You will get an answer, but it's most of the time because it's in their job description.

Khaosan Kyoto is a very nice guest house in every aspect. Its location is very good, you just walk a little from the Kawaramachi Station; staff is friendly, they have these small papers with famous locations written on them so you can easily understand where you have to go and the rooms are also very good. If you are looking for a hostel in Kyoto, don't look any further...

If only the rooms were better my overall opinion about the hostel would change to excellent. Rooms are were you stay and this is very important, after all. I think the rooms are too small and there was a strange smell, so I didn' t want to come back very much. However, because of the other good things I would stay there again.

Good location in the center, but too expensive for really tiny rooms (twins). Anyway, staff is helpful, and facilities are super clean.
