Didn't get to see much of the hostel, arrived late and only stayed 1 night. Seemed very good, quite a large hostel so not as easy to meet other travelers.

I always stay at Khaosan Kyoto when I go to Kyoto, as my first experience there was amazing ^_^. The hostel is clean and tidy, the renovations still look new, and the staff are nice and very helpful. The location is a bit far from Kyoto station, but it's right next to Teramachi and Gion, and it has plenty of convenient bus stops nearby ^_^

The hostel was well equipped and clean with a lovely large common room. However our bed was very uncomfortable with the springs digging into our back and the mattress sagging in the middle. It might just have been our room and being in such a central location probably made up for this flaw. We also appreciated the free internet, though I think it's standard for Japan.

A dream hostel! Has everything you need for a low cost, friendly staff, wifi, large common room and classes to learn Japanese, calligraphy etc, staff book filled with recomedations for places to go and eat; incl vegetarian options! Location right near the main shopping strip! Highly reccomended. The only thing that got me was the lingering scent of the toilets on 2F other than that a great hostel :) (even got my hair did by receptionist Annie, such a great chicka!)

This is a GREAT hostel! Such a cute and fun atmosphere. It is also a great location, within walking distance to many things to see and to the train station and a few bus stops. I was most impressed with how well informed and helpful the staff was! Every question we asked was answered thoroughly and usually with an accompanying map and/or sheet of step-by-step information. I HIGHLY recommend staying here!

This was probably the best hostel we stayed at as far as atmosphere and facilities go, with a great airy common room to interact with other travellers and good kitchen, toilet and laundary facilities (even if I did overlook the laundry closing time of 9.00pm, oops). The staff were friendly and helpful enough if not as warm as others we met on our travels. Its location was also very central making getting around easy enough; I would definitely recommend this highly affordable hostel.

this is a world class hostel, but wifi signal is rather weak by Japan standard.

Perfect location, and very helpful staff. Luggage storage, and common area with kitchen and supplies available. Plenty of showers and toilets for everyone. Very clean hostel. Dorm rooms were a bit sparse and problems with the temperature - either very cold or very hot.

I had difficulty getting money from ATM machines to pay for my two nights at the Guesthouse. The staff was very kind let me check in for one night and give me extra time to get money wired to me from USA. They were all very considerate of my situation. I would like to see more wall hooks for towels, clothes, and bags of toiletries in the bathroom and shower room. The lavatories had no level surfaces for your toiletries. They all sloped into the sinks so you belongs were always sliding into sink.

Hi all, we were not particularily impressed with the amount of noise which comes from other people in the hostel. we were near the near the main door into the rooms corridor and there was always someone on thier phone or skype on the otherside of the tine walls. Also people walking down the hall way were so loud due to the raised floor and echo. location awesome, but i think ild stay anywhere else next time, maybe K house

It was really good. first time for me to travel and stay in a hostel alone, for me. Safety was my priority. I felt very safe. didnt use common room, just wifi and shower. Clean and tidy. City center close to station, bike rentle, bus stop, resturants, and shops (that's affordble for students). Staff were bilingual. helpful. got some nice post crads from there too.

Great atmosphere and mixing place for younger, solo travellers. The common room is always busy and full of like-minded travellers who want to socialise. The language exchanges with Japanese university students is also a good way to meet new people and brush up on Japanese words and phrases.

The huge lounge room and comfortable surrounds made it easy to meet new people and have fun as a group. W met some awesome people and even extended our stay so that we could spend more time wit them. The place was always kept immaculately clean and staff responded promptly to any problems. It was a fabulous stay.

I loved the Khaosan Kyoto Guesthouse! It was in a great location, their facilities were clean and nice, and above their staff was incredibly warm and helpful! It completely exceeded my expectations, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. They also gave us really awesome food recommendations which I appreciated very much. Loved it!
