Originally I only booked 2 nights but ended up with 3. Overall, the staff are welcoming & helpful in providing info on transportation & eating places. The self service laundry is very convenient & cheap with free detergent. The common area is cozy & spacious. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm where the bed sheet set is very clean & comfortable. I had 3 good nights of sleep. The wi-fi is strong. However, we need a larger fridge to store the increasing food by the guests. I'll definitely come back again.

Tiny room without a window to open, I didn't like it. Showers etc were good, clean, nice common room with big kitchen and laundry facilities. The hostel gives you great information to navigate in the city, they made it easy to use the bus system.

Rooms and bathrooms were very clean, staff was helpful. Great kitchen and communal area upstairs. Stayed in a 4-bed dorm. Small, simple, clean - had curtains covering beds. Would recommend.

This place just feels really overcrowded. Considering that it is in Japan, one could argue that it wasn't really that clean. One of the showers on the 4th floor didn't work properly, which made it hard to get a shower among the masses of sweaty backpackers. The private room I had was OK but not exactly a good value. They should consider reducing the number of rooms and bunks to make this place more livable.

Loved this hostel and used it as a base to explore other cities near Kyoto. Really enjoyed the community vibe, the facilities and the staff recommendations for restaurants. The recommendations were spot on!

This is a big hostel - and that affects atmosphere. Got the twin bunk bed room and there was little space to even put bags on the ground. There was a desk and chair that was not useful and just took up space. The 3rd floor was not well ventilated and it smelt like 60 bodies and alcohol and almost made you wretch in the morning. The window in our room opened inwards which cut off the doorway. Not enough kitchen space for the amount of people using it. Overall poor layout and design but it's ok.

Staff there is awesome. Super friendly and helpful - and not just the front desk staff. The dorm I stayed in was great and came with a locker - no need to bring your own lock. I even forgot my adaptor and they had a bunch to loan out for free (only needed a security deposit). Excellent trip to Kyoto. Can't wait to go back and stay there again.

It's good if you're looking for a Western hostel experience. A few things that could be improved: more activities for guests to meet each other! It's too big of a hostel to easily meet people otherwise. Maybe a bar crawl? It's nice that they provide laundry detergent, but the dryer doesn't work well (Plan for more than one cycle). Also, the water pressure is terrible on the upper floors. Don't bother trying to shower on the 5th floor (where I stayed) as it eventually becomes just a dribble

Overall very nice play to stay. In the city center so easy to get around to the major tourist attractions. Small rooms but to be expected in Japan especially for the price, but also very clean. Enjoyed our stay.

it was a wonderful stay in kyoto. it's clean in both bed and bathroom . it's good for the curtains for privacy. staff are really helpful and nice. and a great location which near the train station and shopping street. i will probably stay in khaosan again when i go kyoto next time.

Main thing I didn't enjoy about this Khaosan is that the common room was filled with long-term guests who were there for the Wi-Fi and didn't talk to anyone else. It was like a full library, completely silent.

This guest house was perfect!! We were only in Kyoto for a few days, but all the tourist information you can ever need was provided by the guest house staff. The facilities were perfect for the price and the location was incredible! All-in-all a very good stay! I would strongly recommend this guesthouse for anyone travelling to Kyoto.

Everything was super nice. It is good to find a branch of hostels that raise the bar, and mantains it's services along all of it's branches. Would definately stay again if I go back to Kyoto!
