The Japanese staff and managers are all lovely even if english isnt strong the vibe here is great which is far more important. The hostel is clean and has all the facilities including an unlimited wifi internet coupon system. Will definitely come back.

Might be time to change the carpet. Basement rooms where a bit noisy - could hear people upstairs in the kichen in the morning.

We booked Lantana many weeks before coming to Auckland. Just 2 days before getting there, lantana staff e-mailed me (which was strange, because they had not replied to my e-mails with questions) to inform me that because of some painting my room would be unavailable. They were kind enough to offer us a room at their other lodge (Freeman's) which was OK (but I would normally never choose it). So, in sum, nice people, but they need to improve communications.

I really enjoyed my stay in lantana lodge.I was in the dorm room.It is very clean & the dorm room has lockers for each bed & the door lock automatically whn it shuts (very good for security).The bathrooms are very clean & free internet with free wireless is a big bonus.Very quiet & great staff.I would definitely come back & stay again.Great location.

Although the hostel is a hilly 30 minute walk from the city, it's got great character. It's a small place so easy to meet people and it's very sociable with a big shared lounge. Home to a lot of long termers though, so if you're looking to meet travel companions you may be better advised to stay somewhere else.

This backpacker is a quite one which is good I think: not far from the CBD for the parties or to visit, but when you come back, you can sleep.

Good points - Location Free Internet Lots of hot water Nice feel about the place Bad points - The staffing was a bit weird. Any inquiries about booking extra nights or whatever required a phone call to the manager, and couldnt be answered by the guy on the desk. Why employ someone in a hostel and not even allow him to do basic things like book extra rooms or nights??? Kitchen is small. Pricing is a bit erratic. OK, it was the RWC, but even still, it seemed to change quite often.

A nice place to stay walking distance from the city very helpful staff And a nice atmosphere. I would come back here.

Staff were great, really helpful. Prices remained reasonable even though world cup was on. Could walk into city. Would stay again

Great hostel, can't complain. Plus as far as I know it's the only one in Auckland with free internet. Would definitely recommend it.
