nice traditional Japanese atmosphere with affordable bugdet and the staffs are friendly and very helpful. Location is around neighbourhood houses so it's quite peaceful to stay. Recommended if you wanted to stay in a inexpensive ryokan in Kyoto.

We thought the Ryokan was fanastic. Very clean and comfortable. We were able to use the kitchen and made friends with people in the living area. We indulged in the kimono ad tea ceremony experience. The lady who did this for us was lovely and so friendly, pleased to answer any questions. We would definitley stay here again. Our only negative comment is that we found it quite difficult to find, even with a map.

The room was relatively small, but very clean and tidy, we were on the second floor, the room was a bit like an attic, I guess would be even worse for western people. we could hit the ceiling without standing up. Very friendly and helpful staff. The neighborhood was very "Japanese" like, in terms of character was great, but a bit far from railway station. Good to have kitchen to cook our own breakfast. Having a supermarket nearby.

We liked the fact that it was not in the centre, somewhere quiet and very residential where you could meet locals. Shops and a bus stop are nearby. There is even a public bath which apparently has a wine bath too - weird. The hostel hosts tea ceremonies and kimono wearing sessions which can be fun. All and all we liked the quiet homely atmosphere and we would go back again.
