stayed in a private room. you need to know that this is an old building. feels grimey. very small room. very small bathroom and everything in there is old. windows without bug screens. not impressed at all. would rather stay in a clean hostel dorm room.

Nice experience to stay in a traditional Japanese wood made building! Very clean and good privacy. Locates in small quiet street but very close to the train station. Watch out the narrow stairs, I fell down the first day. It's part of the traditional building though. :)

Lovely place, great location. Our room was quiet, had a nice window and was very traditional but a bit tight quarters for we westerners. I enjoyed reading the notes about the Ryokan and the art work and bldg. designs as well as the suggestions for things to do in the neighborhood.

this is a very traditional place, sober, in a quiet street, 15 min walking from Kyoto train station. Quite small, you need to be thin, and not too tall ! We were a group of 6 people and barely had enough space for the 6 mattresses. We are all around 1m80 (6 feet) and we had to be very careful not to bang our heads on the doors and the ceiling of the mezzanine. We reach the rooms through a small staircase, difficult to enter with big luggage. It's expensive but that's Japan...

The rooms for four people are more suitable for 2. Perhaps a couple with children. Certainly not 4 adults.

Nice traditional hostel with peace and tranquility. Even the staff resembled traditional Japanese in their clothing, their mannerisms, and the like. The staff were also extremely helpful when it came to transport, directions, and interesting spots to find in Kyoto. I would definitely stay here again should i come to Kyoto.
