historical building, better than to see at museum, staffs are so helpful and nice, nice breakfast, but sometimes the toilet is smelly at ground floor!

3 night stay. Facilities excellent and the room is exceptionally comfortable. Shared washroom/toilet area is very clean and dry. There is a pub located 2 lots away but the noise level drops significantly after 11pm so noise is not an issue. The hostel has done a good job in providing modern comfort without taking too much away from the old world character of the guesthouse, which is its selling point. Would definitely recommend to friends. Made my stay in Penang all the more memorable.

There are plenty of places in penang to choose from even within Wolrd Heritage City of Georgetown but Old Penang is something of a legend. The palce is renovated just in the right manner. Old features maintained, rooms neat and clean, the staff is super friendly and you will always bump into someone you'll call a friend long after you checked-out. I have stayed four times till now and tried everything from bunkbeds to single room to double bed private room, all of them great!

The hostel was great, so clean and the staff were all accomodating! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a better social atmosphere, were backpackers could gather and meet. Otherwise excellent and highly recommended for visiting Penang.

Has all the things a hostel should- comfortable beds, air-conditioned dorms, free lockers, free breakfast, hot showers etc. plus a couple of bonuses, like the lovely communal areas and beautiful old Colonial architecture. I found staff members to be pretty abrupt (waking up late-sleepers in the dorm by slamming doors, not communicating bookings between themselves and placing the blame with the customer) but they couldn't detract much from an all-round great hostel.

Lovely hostel with spacious dorms and shared areas. In a great location by the other hostels with decent, cheap, street food nearby and the historic part of town down the road. Quite quiet but very close to other bars.

The hostel itself was very good. Great location, good characters and etc. BUT when I was planning to go to a beach area, a staff tried to "persuade" me into using a travel agent which would cost 80 RM. I later found out that there was public transportation to the beach(6 RM) and went there by bus.(btw, the beach was horrible, and I think the staff knew it, but didn't give any info either) even though the hostel was good, my memory at the hostel is not all good.

Stayed in the private ensuite. Well kept and clean, ceiling was slightly leaking though (be good to fix the roof!). Bed was very comfortable, good night's sleep everyday:) Not a party hostel, has a rustic feel, which is great!

The area is very noisy, and the walls are really thin, so it's quite hard to fall asleep at night.

I had a good stay, the staff were ok. Great location, close to major bus stop and other sights and food place. Noise was a bit of an issue due to the floorboards and thin wall. The place have a bit of a swag, nice architecture. It feels like back in the history but with modern facilities. Priate room was a bit claustrophobic, but you will spend most of your time in the common space. Nice and comfy common space, relatively cheap beer. Free toast with jams and good coffee & tea for breakfast.
