Noisy overall. We had the room above the lobby and the tv and/or radio were on from 8 am to 11pm. I knew it was time to wake up when Adele started singing- every morning for a week. The guesthouse next door has a loud crowd out front until midnight or one each night. So if you want a quiet room ask for a room in the mid back. Shared bathrooms were kept clean and I never had to wait for a WC or shower. I'd stay here again, I'd just bring earplugs.

The price was good for the area and the room was clean. Breakfast in the morning was simple, but nice. The only thing bad with this hostel was that as I was showering I looked up and realized someone was taking pictures of me showering! Unfortunately I did not catch who it was and the staff at the front desk did not seem overly concerned with trying to figure out who it was. From then on my friend and I took turns standing watch outside the shower room while the other showered!

The best thing about this hostel is the location. Located near the bus stop that will take you anywhere in Penang. Also there is a lively character who will rent you a motorcycle if you are a little more adventourous. Overall a good place to stay in Penang.

Guesthouse felt very tired. Everything seemed not old and quaint but a little run-down. The location however is good, with a bus stop just a few steps away. The staff were helpful, although not overly friendly. Overall I think there are better options in this price range.

Lovely authentic hostel- definitely not a party sort of place! We had a double room- room 11 which was a brilliant one as it had the shutter windows overlooking the street but was at the back so a lot quieter than being on Love Lane. The breakfast ran until late which we liked as sometimes we like a layin, and the whole atmosphere of the hostel was a nice place to chill out after the chaos that is Georgetown! Only one complaint- the wifi didn't work in the room- only downstairs in the main area.

We loved the style of the building as we are architecture enthusiasts. Our room was not very big, but the red walls and wooden feature add to the charm. It is in a nice alley and lots of places are in walking distance.

Was my first time staying in a hostel and I had a great experience! Staff were very nice and gracious when I knocked over the flower pot and spilled water all over the table. Also extremely helpful when I asked for directions. Facilities were clean and they only had one toilet but I never had to wait long. Close proximity to really good local food as well. Breakfast was simple but I love that they had Kaya jam! Great place to just chill and meet new people:) Will definitely stay there again!

the old shophouse atmosphere was still intact despite it being renovated and refurbished with modern furniture. This essence should be kept when changing the interior. I have seen some shophouse hotels that ended up being a dingy, commercialised, mix-&-match kind of place. To put it bluntly they looked like cheap places that tried to squeeze as many rooms as possible and the materials used in the renovation was so out of place.
