It was the second time I stayed here. It still has the friendly atmosphere and now a new cafe is added to the hostel where guests can have their welcome ritual ( Indian pancake, or banana fritte and a drink upon arrival. Now the bathrooms are equiped with hangers so guests can put clothing or towels there as suggested by me last time. It is unfortunate the intrusion by unfriendly personnel had caused a downturn in business for the whole Sabah. But still I could still enjoy seafood at Sim Sim.

Staff was really good and we got good advises for what to do. However first room (double room) that we got was in terrible condition. It was really moist and stinky, paint was dropping from the walls and roof. We got another room which was OK. The hostel owner makes great pumpkin in coconut milk gravy. It's worth trying.

The owner / manager was really friendly and helpful. The banana fritters and tea on arrival was a nice surprise. Great advice regarding Turtle Island trip and what to see in the town.

My stay here was fantastic! The staff was above & beyond friendly & it was like being around old friends. They were helpful & knowledgeable about things around town & they provided maps & had books of tours if you're interested. The rooms are very simple but clean & the shared bathroom is kept in order. The shower is quite small but the water is hot as long as no ones been in there just before you. Stay here, you won't regret it!!
