Shelter city is in a great location for exploring Amsterdam, with this said it is in the middle of the red light district. Countless people passed when we were staying here laughing at the fact that there are the infamous red windows about 5 steps from this christian hostel. It sets up a good base for seeing the city, and has wonderful breakfast. It is a little more expensive then some but it is a safe christian inspired atmosphere.

The best hostel I've stayed at by far. Great atmosphere, great staff, great guests! I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Amsterdam and a big thank you to Shelter City for their hospitality.

Thanks for the private 2 bed female dorm. The breakfast is not too good. Maybe you can add more menu and hopefully drinks can be unlimited.

The hostel is very confortable, there are computers with free internet, you can get a free map of the city with recommendations. There is a very nice and beautiful garden. It is a bit expensive but the location is very good. I would recommend this hostel.

Quite good, 10~15min walking distant from train station. The hostel check identity everytime before people go in the hostel. I lived in 4 bed female dorm, the room is middle size (a bit small), clean, neat and comfortable. The toilet and bathrooms are new, with hair dryer.

I am a Christian so I love the fact that it is a Christian hostel. A lot of Christian-themed decos throughout, which I love. Lockers are outside your room and men's bathrooms are a bit far from my room which is a bit inconvenient. Good, free breakfast and meals can be bought for quite a good price.

It was interesting that it was a Christian hostel. They don't imposed their beliefs. FREE breakfast was nice. The courtyard area was lovely to sit and relax. Room was clean and quiet. People didn't seem to talk to one another. Wish it created a better atmosphere for ppl to meet. Reception desk was always busy so had to wait awhile to ask anything. The location is so prime. Close to lots of good food, the train, and other sights. Plenty of showers, never had to wait. Would come back again.

I enjoyed every minute of my stay. I got to meet lovely people who were also staying plus the staff were all friendly and welcoming. I shall be staying with shelter city again when i return to Holland in the future.

It's a good deal for the price you pay. Bascially, a place to put down your backpack, sleep, and shower. Room and facilities are not the most modern, but it's sufficient. The staff is very nice and helpful. Can't beat the location, walking distance to the Central Station and tram stops.

It's aged, especially the beds and shower room. The shower is uncomfortable. There is no kitchen so that I cannot cook my own food. I cannot access facebook on their computer. Is it a kind of censorship? On the other side, staff are friendly and this is a secure place.

Friendly staff, clean beds n bathrooms, internet consoles available, breakfast included I would like if the windows can be sound proof coz this hostel being right in the RLD, noise levels (boys shouting) is very loud. One would need ear plugs to get some sleep. WiFi signals are very poor

Overall, i have a good time staying at shelter city. it has awesome location, closed to the metro station, only 1 stop away from Amsterdam central. moreover, it is near the red light district. well, it has more to do than night life, since there are many shops and restaurant around that area. the staff is very nice as well, give us good information. we stayed on sat, and there is like a farmers market near by. they have flowers, cheese, snack, so adorable!!!

Great location, it's in the red light district and walking distance from central station. Breakfast and shower facilities are superb compared to a hostel, other services are on an average level, but lockers and rooms are really small. THe indication of the fact that it's a Christian histel is a bit too much for me, but all in all, good value for money.

The volunteers who help run this hostel are good people, the location is central and easy to find. However, other than that, there is little else that makes this place livable. Nearly everything here, especially hostel policies, is designed to make your stay uncomfortable. You can not enter your room before 1300hrs after check-in at 8am; a steep, narrow spiral staircase makes carrying luggage life-threatening; and the free wi-fi is a thin wisp of nothingness in the rooms.
