Tassie Backpacker is awful. It's old, dirty, and has plumbing problems. The showers are rusty, dirty and barely get any hot water. There is at least one pipe constantly leaking onto the carpeted hallways. The staff don't seem to want to have anything to do with you unless you're at the Brunswick bar & well-dressed. The common area for backpackers isn't even lit. Anyone can get into the hostel, but at least the rooms have locks. The worst part: They never gave me my $20 key deposit back!

The location was great, and nice people living there. The kitchen was almost outside as was the dining room so it was cooold. Never saw anyone vacuum or anything during the time I was there and their way of making the binkbeds was... Special. Not a very bad hostel otherwise, sort of cosy and both fans and heater available. The bathrooms were a bit cold also. A bit run down all over I guess.

Can't beat the location - right in the middle of everything, and a Wooly's & bottle shop right across the street. Fab! Bathrooms need a good clean (mold on curtains, dirty basins) though it's an old building so a bit of grunge is expected. There was no info on activities or tours (aside from a few brochures in the lobby) and I felt the hostel didn't try to engage customers at all - a place to sleep and that's it. Would've loved info on fav. places to eat, drink, tours, etc. Not a bad hostel.

Please be warned. This is a VERY old and rundown building. Its not even a full service hostel and the staff are nowhere to be found. Cold and Dirty but a great location. Go elsewhere.

Apart from one guy swearing at us then using the toilet and not closing the door whilst I was trying to brush my teeth we had a good experience. They were very nice offering the 3 of us have a room to ourselves when we had only paid for a larger dorm. Staff were also extremely helpful when my friend had left her purse there after we had checked out! Would recommend the hostel as it is a great location and good value for money.

Location was good and we received excellent service from the staff, who went out of their way to help us in several ways.

Stayed here five times in two months, so I guess that says I was satisfied! Clean, comfortable beds, friendly staff, and good value for money. Good kitchen. Some of the showers a little tired and temperamental, but soon found out which one to use. Would stay here again if in Hobart.

Get common room but not incentive to get people to interact. Really helpful staff! Wifi is awesome!

Fine hostel. Only stayed for one night but have nothing extraordinary to say about it. But it was for sure not a hostel!

The bar downstairs is fantastic - a lovely way to end a night or great food for dinner. The fireplace was the best spot! The room itself (double with ensuite) was small but good for the price. Not a huge amount of privacy between the bedroom and bathroom but totally fine for us. Shower was fine and hot, the bar heater in the room kept us warm on Hobart's first March snow night in years! I'd definitely recommend it, if not to stay then definitely to visit the restaurant/bar.

Room was spacious, clean sheets & towel provided. A few surfaces were a little dirty but easily sorted with a babywipe. The bathoroms were clean enough but could have done with an upgrade. Right in the city so a bit loud on the weekends but perfect location to get food, plenty of shops and cafe's close by. Parking is a bit of a nightmare being right in the centre of town & we had hired a car but this is not the hostels fault. All in all we had a great stay.

In general it was good for a hostel. However the sliding door of ensuite was not closing and this was an inconvenience. The bathrooms taps constantly dripped and the water pressure in the shower was lacking. The window needed to be propped open by a mug, leaving us one short.

This hostel is pretty standard - the rooms are small and the beds are less than comfortable. The hostel itself has no atmosphere, but the bar below is awesome and holds atmosphere there. The location is close to many shops and stores, in the heart of Hobart. Parking can be found in front, but its paid from 8am to 6pm. Internet was free, which was a plus.

had such a great time at the brunswick. the staff is a ton of fun and always willing to provide anything you might need during your stay. definitely visit the bar as well - it is very reasonably priced for the quality and a great atmosphere!

The bathrooms are dingy and are in desperate need of HOOKS and SHOWER CURTAINS!! Currently your clothes and towels get wet while you\'re taking a shower! Other than that it was a good place to stay because of the location.
