Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse is a multi-award winning hostel in the centre of Hobart, in the historic village of Battery Point, just 5 minutes walk from approximately 30 cafes/restaurants and the famous Salamanca Market.

Owned and operated by local Tasmanian couple, Antony and Rose, Montacute has private queen rooms, private bunkrooms and shared bunkrooms. All beds have excellent quality mattresses, hotel-quality linen, woollen duvet/doonas and blankets, and a towel. Every bunk bed also has a reading lamp, power point and shelf per person.

Montacute has a large kitchen, sitting room with log fire, lounge halls with sofas, dining room, BBQs, deck, balconies with mountain views, garden with picnic tables, coin-operated laundry and bicycles for hire.

Montacute also has FREE PARKING, FREE LUGGAGE STORAGE (before and after check-in/out) and FREE WIFI (super-fast, 100/40Mbps, fibre optic broadband).

Please note that:
1. All bathrooms are Montacute are shared (no ensuite rooms)
2. Living onsite (outside only) at Montacute are two very friendly miniature bulldogs, Lily (mama) and Tuxi (son).

The Bunkhouse is delightful, in one of the best parts of Hobart. It has a welcoming friendly atmosphere in a beautiful building. The rooms are very clean and homely with great staff. The laundry was very convenient to wash my gear after a six day hike. I highly recommend the Bunkhouse.

This is a great place to stay. I have felt welcomed here. The rooms and the kitchen are clean and spacious. The house is located on a small side street, so there is no street noise. Plenty of restaurants and the harbor area are within easy walking distance. I would gladly stay here again.

super cute stay! I can highly recommend for solo travelers. I stayed in the 8 bed female dorm, although it’s not a social hostel everyone is very friendly! It is more of a BnB vibe than a hostel, which is perfect for Hobart

The capital of Tasmania, Hobart – Australia’s island state, really brings the saying ‘good things come in small packages’ to life. You will find a hostel in Hobart within 1km of the city, with the exception of a waterfront lake lodge located just under 5km from the town centre. Perhaps you’re one of ‘those people’ who like to collect country specific and unique mementoes that others deem ‘unnecessary’? Well get down to the Salamanca market on a Saturday. With arts, crafts, gifts, clothing and food on sale, we’re sure your heart will be content. If you’re looking for outdoor activities then hike up one of the mountains, chase the many waterfalls or opt to adventure to Bruny Island Lighthouse.

If you’re wanting to explore downtown Hobart or the waterfront, go on your merry way with easy adventuring by foot. When your feet get tired grab a Metro Greencard or buy a single ticket and take advantage of the buses around the inner and outer parts of the town.
