My 2 friends and I stayed in the private ensuite room for a night in Kyoto & we were so impressed at how new and clean the place was. Our room was big and spacious. They provided us with Yukata (the traditional Japanese robes + instructions on how to wear them), Japanese green tea and sweets to go with it in our room, which was nice. Also we had the view of an old temple across the road from our room. It was the best stay I had in Japan! I wish we could stay longer!

Wifi only available in reception area. Public bath dismal. Nothing like a hostel. Surprised it is listed on hostel world website. Not many amenities for the price.

Lovely ryokan. Pretty rooms. Clean and well designed. Close-ish to Kyoto station. Right across the street from a large, beautiful temple. Would have preferred to have wifi access throughout the ryokan. Also would have been nice to not have to pay in cash. Didn't visit the public bath but a nice option to have nonetheless.

Location was not ideal, not much going around the area (long walks to get to somewhere to eat). Unclear if it's a Ryokan thing, but a midnight curfew can be a bit ridiculous for younger guests.
