Poor mattresses, my boyfriend had about 3 or 4 futons stacked together with a huge rut in the middle. Bathrooms were not very clean, definitely opted out of using the shower!

Friendly staff, spacious twin-rooms, and with a real backpackers atmosphere. A little bit worn down, but with a really great location in Kyoto's down-town area. Easy and quick access to most kinds of public transport. We would gladly stay here again.

We had a fantastic time at this hostel. Friendly owner who was a great laugh and incredibly helpful, even after we left and needed to come back for more help! Fun atmosphere and great decor, really enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to anyone visiting Gion!

The reception does not open before 10 am (locked doors), so forget leaving your luggage before this time. I don’t like this fact, but it’s even worse that they don’t inform clearly about it, not even on the door (I thought the place had closed down). The staff is not very good in English and does not have the positive helpful attitude you usually are greeted with in Japanese hostels. Compared to Khaosan Kyoto Guest House (where I’ve stayed twice), this place really doesn’t measure up.

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for the advice. Since the entrance is opened from 9:00am, there is no telling why you became so. all the best.

The owner was very laid back and cool. The hostel itself is very clean and funky looking (kinda in a japanese hipster way if that makes any sense). The mixed dorm beds were big and very comfortable to sleep in. And there's always coffee and tea in the kitchen, along with dishes and a fridge and mini stove top to use. Had a great time there and would definitely stay there again the next time I visit Kyoto.

Great location. Other than that: not many people were around the hostel when I was there, and it was kind of lonely. The common lounge was pretty cold and the computer was very slow. Other than that it was a good hostel, the guy in the reception was a good help with tours and attractions around the city. It was a nice stay, and cheap. Good value for your money.

Really nice place. Great kitchen and the location is fantastic. Two minutes from the subway station and the Gion area is a perfect place to stay.

The only problem was the lack of shade against the sliding-wall-door, as some of the panels had been lost and let sunlight in early in the morning. Apart from that, it is an amazing hostel. There is plenty of space in the lounge and kitchen, and an air of energy and fun permeates the living spaces. Plenty of showers and computer access guarantees that basic needs are met, whilst the staff are always there to provide helpful information. Very close to transport and temples!

Located in a very good area, in the heart of the city. Only 10 minute away by walking to Kiyomizu-dera, and 10-mint the part of Kyoto that doesn't shut down after 8pm. It's really quiet and peaceful, though not a good place to meet new people. Also, there is no one you can call successfully after midnight... Was locked out of our rooms once with another guest for the whole night. But in good, a decent place to stay.

Great hostel, the best one we stayed in during our Japan tour. We had a double room, it was very spacious and clean and the bathroom and kitchen facilities were excellent. The location is amazing, so close to everything and close to the subway. I'll definitely stay there again!

very good location with all major sightseeing spots in a walking distance; staff is unmotivated and not able to help with directions and useful information about kyoto; hostel was mostly clean but sometimes it smelled pretty bad in the rooms and in the bathroom..

Good place for someone who love nightlife. I just want to sleep but it really hard. Bed always make noise when someone move his body and I feel like earthquake all night long (from bunkbed). Mattress is thin and big hollow in the middle. There is kitchen but there's no some basic equipment - just like pan, they have rice cooker but no rice spoon. They have hairdryer that never hot. They have free coffee but no sugar. For example.....

Great location near Gion/Tawaramachi/Shijo station. Great guy behind the desk, really friendly and helpful. Our room was dank, however, and the beds not very comfortable. Showers and lounge furniture quite worn out. Good wifi in rooms. Rooftop terrace locked overnight. Would probably stay elsewhere in Kyoto next time (but definitely would grab a drink with the Yugo, the guy behind the desk!)

The staff at the front desk speaks excellent English and is very helpful. The kitchen is equipped with stove, microwave, oven, fridge, untensils, coffee, etc. free for all to use. Will come back next time!

I've never seen a more ambitiously decorated hostel! Everything has a personal touch to it, every wall had something interesting to look at! Perhaps, not suited for the conservative. Accomodating and kind English-speaking staff, and located right next to an exit of the nearest station!

What a brilliant hostel! The guy on the front desk (sorry... I forgot your name..!) was awesome and very helpful. The roof top is a great place to hang out and meet people. The bathrooms and common areas were always clean. I had an amazing stay and really look forward to visiting again some time in the future.

Single-glazed room overlooking main road was very noisy 24/7, but decent location for seeing town & Gion etc. Owner seemed mostly absent and was surly when called out to help us unlock the room door (not with the key, it turns out). Standard 500yen bus passes were 600yen to buy, for no apparent reason. Not a bad place, but for the price, there's much better around. Won't be staying again.
