Not the most hygienic because there aren't sinks to wash your hands on every floor. Staff is rarely around, but were there to check me in and out so that was fine. Very easy to find as its right on the river. Bed was comfortable enough. Computer was frustratingly slow, but had a comfortable seat, you've got to look for the good things. Met some cool peeps in the lounge and ended up finding some good places to visit that I hadn't thought of.

Our stay at this hostel was very good. This very well located in the Gion district, next to a subway station and several buses, and close to restaurants and shopping area. The hotel staff (Yugo) treated us very well and made us feel at home at all times. Probably, would stay here if I were to Kyoto

Location - 1 min from station. Thats all that good about it. No lifts so if you have heavy luggage forget about this hostel. Nothing special for the price you pay.

Front desk staff was so helpful and nice! Very good shower and bathroom facilities. We accidentally took a key but reception contacted us and we mailed it back so we weren't charged. Oh and comfy beds! I will def recommend this place to anyone going to Kyoto.

Our stay at Gion Hostel was not really nice, the slipper we got stank so much you could barely breathe within the rooms because of the smell. There was an electric cooker with just one ring, so you can´t really cook just heat something. When we wanted to check in there was nobody there but we just could walk in because the door was open all the time. The sheet at the front desk told us three different times when it would be possible to check in so you have no clue when to be there.

Hostel is situated within walking distance to Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu temple. All public transportations are easily accesible. The street behind the hostel has a restaurant which serves "Gengis Khan" and and good shop for kushi katsu and oden.
