We enjoyed bakpak gion! Very nice location right next to Keihan line and not too far from Kyoto station. Gion is a great area with lots to see in terms of temples and shrines.
It should have lights in each bed on the dorms, also some place to dress after the shower, specially when the showers are for woman and men
Good location for Gion & nearby buses/trains to major tourist spots. Brush up on your Japanese!
Very friendly and helpful staff, great rates, and good location.
Don't plan on doing too much with the kitchen, and the computer needs to be retired. It's cheap for a reason.
It was a bit hard to find as the lights on the neon sign were completely not working. The computer that was for free use was really old and very slow. The staff that worked that night was also not so nice: My phone wasn't able to connect to the wifi, so I asked the staff to reset the router. He said he would do it later. All he needed to do was to unplug and plug the electric socket back in!
Gion hostel is a pretty good place to stay. Best thing is location. Also, the place is not exceedingly big, so it helps for a good atmosphere. The only thing I did not like was that there was no one at the check in desk when I arrived and the phone with directions was in Japanese, or confusing. I had to wait for some hours to get the key for the room. Other than that, I had a very good time there.
Shower wasn't that good as there was not much privacy. But everything else was good. Excellent location!
great location in the Gion area. Staff is very friendly and willing to help with anything. Stayed in the mixed dorm for 5 nights, ideal place to make it your base and travel between Osaka and Nara.
Friendly staffs! Great travel tips from them. The lounge room really connects the travellers. Probably need more spaces, quite cramp, but it was nice. Love it anyway!

A great stay! Everything was great, except that there was no real kitchen.
Had a good stay here. Great common room to hang out with other visitors. Easy, convenient location too. Would recommend.
A decent location not too far from Karamachi Station. Bed was cosy and easy to sleep in. The power plugs were a little inconvenient though. The staff gets a little grumpy after working hours but I won't expect many people to be at 12am. Recommended if you are just staying for a while. The atmosphere is average if you are looking for a party with fellow guests.
Good location, close enough to visit most attractions in Kyoto. We rented bikes nearby and it was awesome. There is a supermarket open 24hs very near, super convenient. Great living room to eat and hang out. Beds were confortable but there was a funny smell in the room, and bad smell in the toilet most times. Showers only in the first floor. No elevator and small staircase which is not good if you get a room upstairs when you first arrive with large bags.
The the best thing about this hostel is the location. It is in the heart of Gion area and just 30m from a trainstation. You really cant have a better location in Kyoto. The prices were good and so were the beds in the dorm. The hostel is clean and it has a nice roof top were you can hang out in the evening. The negative part is that the staff seems more or less uninterested in their job. They were hardly there at all and when they were they seemed indifferent to the guests. That didn’t really a
Pretty good place. Tiny shower area though. The location is convenient.
Nice location, clean rooms, nice beds and very nice staff! I just hope that the computer at the common room is working.
