Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
Living History at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site invites you to step back into Victorian Halifax through detailed reenactments and daily activities. You’ll see historical interpreters dressed as members of the 78th Highland Regiment, the 3rd Brigade Royal Artillery, and soldiers’ wives from 1869-71. The event features sentry changes, rifle and drill demonstrations, and lively pipe and drum concerts. The firing of the Noon Gun adds a dramatic touch to the experience, making history feel immediate and tangible. The program offers more than just a look at the past—it’s a chance to observe the routines and rhythms of military life in that era. Whether you’re interested in history or simply curious about how people lived and worked, you’ll find moments that capture the spirit of the time. It’s easy to imagine the daily lives of those who once called the Citadel home, and sharing the experience with others adds a quiet sense of connection to a bygone world.
