Light the Lake

Colonial Lake becomes a glowing holiday scene during Light the Lake, where 1,000 luminaries line the water’s edge, creating a warm, twinkling display. You’ll see the tree lighting ceremony led by Mayor Cogswell right at the center of the lake, marking the start of the festive season. The event is hosted by the Charleston Parks Conservancy and offers a variety of holiday performances alongside treats like hot chocolate and cookies. Craft stations add a hands-on element, making it a great outing for families or anyone looking to enjoy a cozy evening outdoors. Snow adds a surprising touch to this charming celebration, giving a hint of winter magic in Charleston’s mild climate. The mix of lights, music, and seasonal snacks creates a relaxed pace that invites you to linger and soak in the moment. Whether you come with friends or family, you’ll find plenty to enjoy without feeling rushed. It’s a simple way to welcome the holidays in one of the city’s most scenic parks.
