Property Description

Book And Bed is 'an accommodation bookshop'

The perfect setting for a good nights sleep is something you will not find here. There are no comfortable mattresses, fluffy pillows nor lightweight and warm down duvets.
What we do offer is an experience while reading a book (or comic book).
An experience shared by everyone at least once : the blissful 'instant of falling asleep'.

It is already 2 am but you think just a little more... with heavy drooping eye lids you continue reading only to realize you have fallen asleep.
Our concept is thus a readers haven - an accommodation bookshop.
(Books aren’t sold, though. It’s just an expression.)

Dozing off obliviously during your treasured pasttime is the finest 'moment of sleep', don't you agree?
With books as our central theme, we decided to create a hostel offering the greatest 'moment of sleep'.

***In Kyoto City, a new accommodation tax will be implemented starting October 1,2018.
Accommodation charge under JPY20,000 (per person per night), the tax amount is JPY200 (per person per night).
Please pay at the lodging facility which you are staying. View House Rules

This is NOT a party hostel, but it has a very chill atmosphere. Some guests just read in the afternoon with some lo-fi beats playing in the background. Everyone was respectful of noise and kept it a relaxing place to rest. Restrooms and sinks were clean. My room was next to restrooms and it didn't wake me up at night. Sleeping capsules have a safe, privacy curtain, and wooden door. Just a small kitchenette with toaster, water heater, utensils. Location is immediately next to the station!

Awesome Place! Great Place for Book Lovers! Awesome place to take insta photos. Staff are very hospitable! They took pictures of us and had great conversations with us (at least an hour). Very near public transpo.

Not your average hostel! If you're looking for a quiet cozy atmosphere after a day of sightseeing this is for you! Tons of books in Japanese and a decent selection of English language books as well. No full kitchen, only a microwave, and no events put on by the hostel. There are so many options to eat nearby though! Friendly staff, very clean, and in a good location to see all the sites of Kyoto.

really loved my stay here. it's close to town, the staff is friendly and welcoming. only suggestion is that they make their sign bigger below because it's very hard to locate. I can't imagine traveling here without a gps, i would've never found it. great place, it seems to attract the introverts, so if you want to go out and do things do it and then just come back and read a book next to someone.

You will not find a better located hostel in Kyoto. Right in the center of everything. The book case theme is great! The atmosphere in the facility is very calm and relaxing.

Neat place. Barely read cuz I was out sightseeing, eating, or just resting. Having the bathroom doors face some of the beds is always kind of awkward. The views are nice. A tabletop would be nice even for just writing notes/itinerary kind of stuff. But cool place to try. Staff were helpful in recommending places to eat. I wish the music at night was just a bit less loud. Since I am an introvert it’s a bit too much sensory input to want to book again.

I loved the book theme and had a lot of fun here. Its like sleeping in a bookcase tree house! But beware, you will hear everything! Ear plugs are necessary to be able to sleep since its such a tiny space. The staff are very very friendly and helpful. Incredible location in the city, worth it if you only have one or two nights in Kyoto. But if you're looking for a home base type hostel, maybe look elsewhere.

    Very Good

This is a bit of a gimmick hostel. I love reading and so enjoyed 1 night here, but I don’t recommend it for a long stay, because the facilities are limited. The hostel is small but very clean and the staff are absolutely fabulous. It is right in the heart of a bustling night life area. I am 6 foot tall and I easily fit in the capsule bed. Good a for a night or two, but look elsewhere for a longer stay.

The beds are really small and awkward to get into. The novelty wore off fast! I wouldn’t do it again
